On Monday, 21 September, Island School hosted an exciting whole-school Inter-House Indoor Rowing event!

Over 1,350 students took part, collectively rowing 321 km—the equivalent distance from rowing to Chaozhou (southeastern China). Students from all year groups competed in relay-style races throughout the day, showing great house spirit and teamwork—alongside a determined staff team!

Well done to everyone who took part!

This week, Rutherford House held its annual Charity Week from September 14–18, bringing the school community together through a range of fun activities—such as a bake sale, a sponsored conga dance, Find Wolfy, a charity carnival, and the eagerly awaited “Splat the Teacher.”

All proceeds were donated to ImpactHK, Rutherford House’s selected charity that helps support people experiencing homelessness in Hong Kong.

On Friday, September 11th, Year 11 GCSE Fine Arts students enjoyed an immersive, full-day workshop with renowned Hong Kong-based artist Eleanor McColl.

Working directly with the multi-disciplinary artist, students experimented with texture, collage, painting, and stenciling to make vibrant mixed-media pieces. This hands-on workshop offered a fantastic opportunity for students to expand their media explorations and enrich their sketchbook development in relation to their current GCSE theme.

On September 7, our students met admissions representatives from over 130 visiting institutions worldwide at the ESF Island School University Fair.

Year 10–13 students and parents had the chance to speak directly with representatives, explore a wide range of programmes, and learn more about campus life at universities around the globe. The fair was a brilliant opportunity—students were engaged throughout and left with new ideas and, for many, a clearer sense of direction for their next career pathway.

A huge thank you to our Higher Education team for organising this wonderful event for Island School students and parents.

Congratulations to Sophie Lee (13N), who recently earned 1st Runner-Up in the Visual Artist category at the South China Morning Post Student of the Year Awards! Celebrating its 45th year under the theme "Leadership in Action: Shaping the Possible", the SCMP Student of the Year Awards (sponsored by Hong Kong Jockey Club) is a prestigious youth recognition program for secondary school students.

The Visual Artist category recognises students who demonstrate outstanding technical skill and artistic vision across different mediums and actively use their creative talents to empower, inspire, and give back to the community. Sophie proudly represented Island School as the only ESF student to reach the top 3 this year amongst over 900 nominations.
