Ever wonder how ancient China visualized thought? The character 想 (xiǎng) reveals a poetic insight:

木 (mù): "Tree" → nature, the external world.

目 (mù): "Eye" → observation.

心 (xīn): "Heart" → the inner realm of feeling & reflection.

Together, they tell a story: When we see (目) the world (木) deeply, it enters our heart (心) — blossoming into thought, memory, and imagination.

The top half, 相 (xiāng), means "to look at" (𝐞𝐲𝐞 + 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞). Adding 心 (𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭) beneath transforms sight into introspection. Thinking isn’t just logic — it’s nature absorbed by the heart.
