Many often say “education change lives” but access to education is visibly unequal. Only 1 in 10 underprivileged students are admitted to university vs 1 in 2 from well-off families. How can we achieve social mobility when quality education is an exclusive privilege to the rich and a denied basic right to the poor? Also, if education plays a pivotal role in children’s growth and in our city’s future, why are we discouraged to take up teaching careers? How do we energize our rigid mode of education when sustainable contribution from talented youths are with limit? In Teach For Hong Kong, we envision a future where every child is empowered to fully unlock their greatest potential regardless of socioeconomic constraints. We believe in the passion and vitality of our young leaders to embark a transformative and experiential era of education.

Our Fellows are ready for the new academic year! 🎓✨
Reflecting on an enriching Summer Institute, our 2026-27 Fellows have engaged in deep learning and personal growth.
Looking back on enriching training during the summer period, Fellows have undergone various reflections and personal growth. Under the professional guidance of the Quality School Improvement Project (QSIP) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fellows learned diverse teaching strategies and core mindsets, which they will apply over the coming year to guide their students 💡. Fellows also visited various organizations and communities, observing and reflecting on educational development and diverse societal needs through different lenses, thereby broadening their horizons on educational issues.

Over the past month, Fellows experienced moments of joy, and uncertainty. Yet, it is precisely these challenges that have strengthened their initial passion to join the Fellowship Program. As the new academic year begins, Fellows are ready to stand by their students, drive education equity through action, and make a real difference within and beyond the classroom🔥.

As September begins, Teach For Hong Kong wishes all Fellows, teachers, and students a smooth and rewarding start to the new school year. May it be filled with growth, learning, and meaningful achievements for all✨!

Is school just about chasing grades? Or is it about unleashing human potential? 🔑
Traditional education often prioritizes exams over exploration. But at our Summer Institute, Marco Shek, Executive Director at Ednovators, reminded us that the future of learning offers infinite possibilities.

In an inspiring session on "Co-created Education Systems" and "Growing the Ecosystem," as Marco emphasized, driving innovation takes patience and no single teacher walks this path alone. By building cross-sector partnerships across schools, NGOs, and policymakers, we can scale impact together. 🌱

A huge thank you to Marco and the Ednovators team for championing a vision where every student in Hong Kong can thrive. Let’s keep co-creating the future of education! 🔥

For many underprivileged students in Hong Kong, a lack of resources and exposure often narrows their view of what’s possible, they simply don't know what they don't know. At this year’s Summer Institute, we are happy to have Laura Chong, Executive Director at Dream2Story, and our alumnus Ken So (Fellow 2020-21) shared with our Fellows how cross-sector collaboration can break these boundaries.

Laura highlighted how corporate visits, internships, and mentorship translate career exploration into real-world confidence, turning abstract dreams into tangible pathways. Yet, as Ken reminded us, driving student growth always starts with human connection and a mindset of being "strict yet loving", listening deeply to students' voices while holding them to high standards.
Most importantly, he urged educators to look beyond the classroom walls:
"One person's strength is limited, but a collective team can carry your vision much further."

By bridging schools with corporate partners, NGOs, and community allies, we can build a supportive ecosystem that helps every student discover their worth. ✨

This year’s Summer Institute was pleased to invite Chung from JUST FEEL to share practical points on self-connection and expressing ourselves with compassion. Chung noted that we often unintentionally say hurtful things, phrases in a “diagnose, deny, demand, or deserve” tone. Although these expressions may seem ordinary, they can make listeners feel invalidated or depressed. Therefore, we can pause and put ourselves in others’ shoes before speaking. Let’s try to replace harmful language with gentler and more empathetic communication.💬.

Should we deal with connection first or the solution first? Chung explained that feelings are important signals that remind us to pay attention to our inner world. When we can tell whether we are expressing a “feeling” or stating a “thought,” we can more clearly see the unmet needs behind those feelings. We can then ask ourselves what needs these feelings represent. Chung also reminded us that feelings are neither right nor wrong. When we accept all our feelings and avoid judging them, we can identify what truly needs to be addressed🌱.

Finally, as educators, in addition to attending to students’ emotions, we must also take care of our own feelings. When we can distinguish emotions from thoughts and express our needs gently and concretely, we can practice compassionate communication in the classroom and in everyday life. Let’s practice compassionate communication together💪!

t this year’s Summer Institute, we were honored to have our alumni, Kenny Lam (Fellow 2021-22) share his insights on cultivating a Growth Mindset. A growth mindset and resilience aren't just traits inside a student waiting to be unlocked, they are products of the environment and context we create for them. Through strong, nurturing relationships, Fellows have the power to actively build and refill their students' "reserve of resilience." 💡

Real growth is never just about the final score, it's about the subtle evolution along the way. True education is a real relationship that allows us to grow together with our students. :fire:

Thank you, Kenny, for reminding us that education is a shared journey of growth!
