【Small-framed senior's first combo class】Small in size, BIG in power! Decades of construction work built that strength.

Post Description:
Today, a new senior student came for his first class.
He's small-framed — doesn't look like someone who would hit hard.

I taught him a basic combination:
Jab → Jab → Hook

I thought to myself: He's small, his power might be limited.
No rush. We'll take it slow.

Then he threw his first punches —
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
Three punches. Every single one had power behind it.
The whole gym turned to look.

I was shocked. I had to ask:
"Have you ever trained boxing before?"

He laughed and said:
"No. But I worked in construction for decades. I'm used to using power.
Throwing rocks, swinging shovels — it's all the same movement."

Small frame. But every punch carries decades of real-life strength.
First class? I'll absolutely take it.

Do you know anyone who's small but surprisingly strong?

【Punching with ground power】Two seniors found that "bounce" feeling today! The harder you try, the less power you have. Relaxation brings surprises.

Post Description:
Today I taught two seniors a very important concept —
Using the ground's power to punch.

At first, they tried really hard.
Every punch used maximum effort.
But the harder they tried, the stiffer their bodies got — and their punches had NO power. They got tired fast.

I told them:
"Stop thinking about power. Think about 'bounce.'
When your feet press into the floor, the floor gives you a force back.
All you need to do is relax, catch that force,
and let it travel from your feet through your body to your fist."

They were skeptical. They tried to relax. Tried not to use force.
Then something clicked —

One of them said:
"Wait... I feel something bouncing back up!"

The other followed:
"Me too! I'm not using force, but my punch feels STRONGER!"

I said:
"Because you've finally found the feeling of 'borrowing power.'
Ground power isn't about force. It's about relaxation.
You need to be relaxed to catch the force — and that's how you punch with real power."

Once you find this feeling, you'll never forget it.

Have you ever tried punching with ground power?

【The key to slipping isn't the pose】It's shifting your weight. This foreign student was a bit stiff today — but relaxation takes time.

Post Description:
Today I taught this foreign student basic slipping technique.

As soon as she started,
I saw a very common problem —
Her whole body was tense, like she was doing a gymnastics routine.

❌ Shoulders raised — couldn't drop them
❌ Upper body locked up — not natural at all
❌ Movements felt "forced" — every move took effort

I told her:
"The key to slipping isn't about making a pretty pose.
It's about how you shift your body weight.
Keep your upper body light. Relax. Let it be natural.
The pose follows the weight shift — not the other way around."

She tried it a few times.
Still a bit stiff — but she started to get the feeling.

I said:
"You're still stiff, but that's okay. Relaxation takes time.
Remember: slipping is about 'weight transfer,' not 'posing.'"

She nodded and kept practicing.

This student has a great attitude. I'm confident she'll find that "relaxed" feeling soon.

【First class for a foreign female student】Punches? POWERFUL. Kicks? A bit "stuck." Coordination needs work — but for a first class, I'll TAKE IT. 👊🦵

Post Description:
Today, a new foreign female student came for her very first class.

There's something different about foreign athletes' natural physique —
The moment she threw a punch, I was surprised —
Every punch was solid and powerful. Didn't look like a first-timer at all. 💥

But when we moved to kicks...
I saw a clear gap:
❌ Her body wobbled when kicking — unstable base
❌ Movements were a bit "stuck" — not smooth
❌ Coordination needs work

I told her directly:
"Your punches are great. But your kicks need more time to develop coordination."

She didn't get upset at all. She replied:
"I know! I'll practice. I learned to kick a ball the same way!"

For a first class, her punches already show quality. Kicks need work, but I'll TAKE IT.
Coordination isn't built in a day.
But with her attitude, I believe progress will come fast.

How do you train coordination?
