Did you know that in Cantonese, you can’t just use the word "play" for every sport? 🤯
If you want to talk about your weekend hobbies like a true Hong Konger, you need to know the right action verbs!
👐 If you use your hands or a racket, use 打 (daa2 - to hit):
🏀 打波 (daa2 bo1) - Playing ball
🦶 If you use your feet, use 踢 (tek3 - to kick):
⚽️ 踢波 (tek3 bo1) - Playing football/soccer
💪 And for general activities (especially our favorite "Kongish" words), use 做 (zou6 - to do):
🏋️♂️ 做Gym (zou6 gym) - Working out
Want to master the rest of the rules and learn how to invite your colleagues out for a weekend hike (行山 - haang4 saan1)? We got you covered! 🇭🇰

It’s a total "黃雨" kind of day. 🌧️👇
If you look at the Hong Kong Observatory, the official name is a mouthful: Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal. But if you're talking to friends or colleagues today, you'll just hear them use the short, colloquial color codes:
🟡 黃雨 (wong4 jyu5) - Amber Rain
🔴 紅雨 (hung4 jyu5) - Red Rain
⚫ 黑雨 (hak1 jyu5) - Black Rain

The sky in HK goes dark and suddenly it’s a mad dash. 🏃♀️💨
I just finished the weather and household scenarios for my Cantonese app, and I had to include the most relatable panic: yelling to the helper to take in the laundry before a downpour (and making sure the kids' clothes don't get soaked!). 🧺🌧️
My app isn't about perfectly formal grammar—it’s about the real, chaotic, everyday phrases you need to survive.
We are getting so close to the launch! Drop a ☔️ in the comments if you want to be on the list for early access!

Happy Friday! 🥂 You made it to the end of the week.
In Hong Kong, the absolute best feeling on a Friday afternoon is finally getting to say: 放工 (fong3 gung1)!
What it means: To finish work / get off work.
How to use it: "Ngo daasuen ng dim fong gung." (我打算五點放工。) ➡️ "I plan to get off work at 5."
Learning Cantonese shouldn't feel like a second job. We are building an app designed to be quick, fun, and easy to use—perfect for practicing on your commute home after fong gung.
🚀 Coming Soon! We are putting the finishing touches on the app. Make sure to follow our page and stay tuned—we can't wait to share more details with you soon!
