提起廣東道,你最先想起的是尖沙咀的名店?還是旺角的露天街市?
廣東道是除彌敦道外,少數縱貫九龍半島、由尖沙咀一直延伸至太子的街道。然而,有別於彌敦道的「大直路」,廣東道沿線其實斷開了幾部分,並不是一條連貫的道路。
When you think of Canton Road, what comes to mind first—luxury boutiques in Tsim Sha Tsui, or the open-air street markets of Mong Kok?
Aside from Nathan Road, Canton Road is the only road that runs the entire length of the Kowloon Peninsula from Tsim Sha Tsui to Prince Edward. Yet unlike the straight, continuous stretch of Nathan Road, Canton Road is actually interrupted at various points along its length.

早期的魚排經營者,大多是由出海捕魚的漁民轉型而來,故形成了一種「捕養並行」的生產模式:漁民仍然會出海捕魚,將體型較大的鮮魚直接送到魚市場買賣,體型細小的魚則放進魚排內養殖,待其長至合適大小再出售。
隨著時代變遷,魚排經營日漸困難,許多魚排經營者也年事已高。海魚養殖年產量自1990年代初高峰期的3,860噸跌至近年(2024)僅626噸。
Most early fish raft operators started out catching wild fish, leading to a hybrid model that merged fishing with aquaculture. The fishermen still went out to sea, and sold the larger, higher-value fish at wholesale markets, while putting the smaller fish into fish cages to mature until they could be sold.
But as the years passed, life on the rafts became increasingly difficult. Many operators grew older, and the industry itself continued to shrink. Annual marine fish culture production, which once peaked at 3,860 tonnes in the early 1990s, had fallen to just 626 tonnes by 2024.

「小漁村變大都會」是多年來關於香港發展歷程的典型敘事,漁業也隨著時間推移,從香港的主要行業之一逐漸退居至次要位置。
儘管如此,香港的漁業至今仍持續運作,魚類生產主要有三種模式:第一種是在海上捕撈野生魚類;第二種是在魚塘飼養淡水魚;第三種則介乎兩者之間,指的是在香港較為避風的海灣中設立魚排,利用懸掛魚籠網箱來養殖海魚。為何人們會開始在海上面養魚?
“From fishing village to metropolis” has long been the standard way of telling the story of Hong Kong’s development. Indeed, fishing was one of Hong Kong’s key industries, but has over time faded into the background.
Yet Hong Kong still does have an active fishing industry, with three main modes of fish production. The first is catching wild fish out at sea, the second is raising freshwater fish in ponds, and the third, which lies somewhere in between, involves raising fish in net cages suspended from floating rafts in Hong Kong’s more sheltered bays. Why did people start raising fish on the sea?

你有沒有想過,為何綠色的士作為新界的士,營業範圍卻不包括將軍澳區、荃灣區、沙田區?這個安排其實與新界的士的設立原意,以及這三個地區的規劃與定位有關。
不過這三個地區仍設有若干新界的士站,綠色的士可沿指定路線接載乘客往返,其中包括沙田的威爾斯親王醫院,以及將軍澳醫院的急症室。這是為了確保新界居民能以較低廉的車費直接到達醫院。一些居住在較偏遠村落的長者,經常會幾個人湊一架的士前往醫院複診。
Have you ever wondered why green taxis, designated for the New Territories, are excluded from operating in Tseung Kwan O, Tsuen Wan, and Sha Tin? This arrangement actually ties back to the original purpose of New Territories taxis and the specific planning and positioning of these three districts.
However, several New Territories taxi stands still exist in these areas. Green taxis can use designated routes to pick up and drop off passengers there, including at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin and the A&E department of Tseung Kwan O Hospital. This ensures New Territories residents can reach hospitals directly at lower fares. Elderly residents from more remote villages often share a single taxi for their hospital follow-up appointments.

為何新界綠的可以在位於九龍觀塘的順利邨「插旗」?
雖然綠色的士一直以來都被定位為新界的士,但為了平衡居民需要與區域限制,政府允許綠的在不干擾市區整體交通的前提下,提供必要的跨區接駁服務。其中一個最特別的接駁點就是順利邨。
這個安排源於80年代綠的業界人士向政府爭取擴闊營業範圍至坪石邨,但卻不獲批准,最終政府折衷將範圍擴至順利邨,以方便居民往返西貢、清水灣等新界地區。
然而,多年來這個的士站都甚少有綠的使用,反而會見到紅色的市區的士在此侯客。
Why do green taxis have a taxi stand at Kowloon's Shun Lee Estate?
While green taxis have been designated as New Territories taxis over the years, the government permits them to serve several essential destinations outside their permitted zone to meet residents’ needs and balance service restrictions, provided they do not disrupt urban traffic. Shun Lee Estate stands out as one of the most unique interchange points.
The arrangement stemmed from early 1980s efforts by the green taxi industry to expand operations into Ping Shek Estate, which were rejected. As a compromise, the government extended the boundary to Shun Lee Estate instead, facilitating locals to travel to and from Sai Kung, Clear Water Bay, and other New Territories areas.
However, over the years, this taxi stand has rarely seen any green taxis in use. More often you see red taxis waiting for passengers there.

有別於同樣位於鹽田仔的三門仔新村,聯益漁村並非由政府直接興建的漁民安置村落,而是由美國聖公會的神父發起建屋計劃。
與許多傳統鄉村一樣,隨著城市發展,聯益漁村的常住人口也逐漸減少,村內只有少數村民仍從事漁業或經營漁排。相較於其他漁村普遍信奉天后、大王爺,並舉行打醮等傳統節慶,由於聯益漁村的教會背景,村中大多數村民以天主教或基督教信仰為主,僅少數家庭保留祭拜大王爺的傳統習俗。
Unlike Sam Mun Tsai New Village, which is also located in Yim Tin Tsai, Luen Yick Fishermen Village was not a government‑built resettlement village for fishermen. Instead, it grew out of a housing scheme initiated by a priest from the American Episcopal Church.
Like many rural villages, Luen Yick’s permanent population has gradually declined due to urban development, and only a few households still engage in fishing or operate fish rafts (floating fish farms). Unlike typical fishing villages in Hong Kong, where residents worship Tin Hau and Tai Wong Yeh (Great Lord) and participate in events like the Da Jiao festival (打醮), Luen Yick’s Christian heritage means that most villagers are Christians or Catholics. Only a few still worship Tai Wong Yeh.

你知唔知道「小商新村」喺邊度?
在香港,「鄉村」兩個字往往讓人聯想起圍村、丁屋,以及與「原居民」身分密不可分的傳統土地權益。然而,新界境內其實有著不同類型的村落。除了642條原居民村,其實還有過百條由非原居民組成的鄉村。
小商新村就是一條在上世紀60年代建立的非原居民村。村內的住宅單位一式一樣:兩層高,總面積僅約200呎。
Do you know where is “Small Traders New Village” in Hong Kong?
In Hong Kong, the word “village” usually brings to mind walled villages, 700 square-foot “small houses”, and the traditional land rights of indigenous villagers. However, the New Territories is home to a diversity of other villages. Besides the 642 officially recognised indigenous villages, there are over 100 rural settlements made up entirely of non‑indigenous residents.
Small Traders New Village is one such non‑indigenous village, established in the 1960s. The housing units in the village are all identical: two storeys high, with a total floor area of only about 200 square feet.
