As a testament to our belief and to our education, nearly every student from Capstone’s first academic year in 2003 and 2004 now attends, or has graduated from, a top world university and many of them (and the graduates since) still visit or stay in contact with us. Capstone students are continuing to be admitted into top US and UK universities including the Ivy League and Oxbridge, and push their own limits to achieve more.

✨ Elevate Your Child’s Academic Writing: Move Past "Passive Observation"

Does your child’s writing often sound basic and lack depth?

When writing essays, it is incredibly easy to fall back on the words we are most comfortable with. However, relying on the same familiar vocabulary over time can leave our work feeling stale.

Take a look at today's spotlight vocabulary transformation for the new academic year:

❌ Overused Word: START
✨ Capstone Alternative: COMMENCE
💡 Why "Commence"?

It Establishes Academic Authority: While "start" is casual and informal, "commence" carries a formal, decisive weight. It signals the beginning of a significant process, study, or era, immediately elevating the sophistication of essays and analytical writing.

Example:
Basic: "Capstone will start its new writing program next semester."
Upgraded: "Capstone will commence its new writing program next semester.”
⚠️ When Not to Use "Commence"

Although we highly recommend upgrading to "commence," it is important to remember that it is not a one-size-fits-all replacement. Good academic writing relies on absolute precision, and there are specific situations where this word breaks the logic of your sentence, and simpler options are required instead!

Everyday Casual Actions: Do not use "commence" for minor or informal routines (e.g., "Let's commence eating dinner" sounds unnaturally stiff; stick to begin or start).

Sudden or Spontaneous Events: Avoid using "commence" when describing unexpected actions (e.g., "It started raining suddenly" is far more natural than "It commenced raining").

After a 7-year hiatus, a Capstone favorite is officially back with a brand-new face and structure: The Round Robin Writing Contest!

Competition Details 🗓 Date: October 11th
⏰ Time: 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM
👥 Teams: 3–4 Students (Capstone Secondary Grade Students)
🏆 Prizes & Winners:

Winner announcements will be made one week after the competition.
The winning team will take home a Grand Prize (to be announced) and have their piece published on our website!

How it works:
Teams take turns building stories together in 15-minute rounds, passing their work clockwise to continue where their teammates left off.

What’s new?

Why offline?
