Led by 𝗛𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗸 𝗔𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗹 and 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗴-𝗛𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗔𝘂, our 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗴-𝗛𝗞𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗔 cohort travelled to 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘆 for an international residency hosted by 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗲𝘃 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, expecting answers and, in many ways, leaving with better questions.

Kazakhstan is frequently discussed in terms of its geography, trade and natural resources. Yet throughout the week of September 14-18, our cohort engaged with the businesses, institutions and leaders shaping the country's future, revealing a far more nuanced and dynamic picture.

Several questions emerged early on. Investment does not always create demand. Technology does not automatically translate into productivity. Financial incentives and government support can create momentum, but they do not by themselves build trust, talent or thriving ecosystems.

As the residency unfolded, participants gained deeper insight into how Kazakhstan is addressing these challenges. One of the strongest takeaways was that understanding a market is not simply about understanding what it is, but how different people see it. Through discussions with business leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers and academics, the cohort encountered diverse perspectives that challenged assumptions and highlighted the trade-offs behind strategic decisions.

Recent headlines have sparked debates about the global AI race, accountability and governance. These issues took centre stage at the HKCGI Corporate Governance Paper Competition & Presentation Awards 2026, themed: “𝗜𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲? ”

We are thrilled to share that our students, 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝗔𝗨𝗥 (BBA in Professional Accounting, and in Management) and 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶 𝗞𝗔𝗨𝗥 (BBA in Professional Accounting) won both the 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 and the 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 🏆- a testament to their critical thinking on AI’s benefits and responsibilities.
