Sailors in Hong Kong are chatting about and “Retired Sails Upcycling Bags Collection”. There are more than a few behind this project. Finding a right partner is the first challenge, connection was made by a WYS who is a devoted worker in the community service field. Wah Yan Sailors Captains ordered the very first commercial production without seeing any sample nor promised delivery. This gives much needed training for the rehab workers. One bag from this first edition is also given to a Wahyanite who is leading a charity who support this project.

A project achieving Triple Bottom Line, benefited People, Planet and Prosperity as we are taught, always.

"Project Guardian: Steering a Neutral Course in Troubled Waters

In 1941, war changed everything in Hong Kong. While the world was at its darkest, the Wah Yan community had to find a way to survive and keep the school safe.

One man who refused to abandon his post was Father Edward Bourke, the Irish Jesuit headmaster of Wah Yan during the Japanese occupation. He could not speak Chinese, so he taught singing. He sold laboratory acids to buy rice. He walked into a Japanese general’s office with a small golden pyx and asked permission to bring Holy Communion to his imprisoned brothers. He survived shrapnel, live wires, and false accusations of spying. His first hand account of those treacherous years is the very foundation of this exhibition.

How did the Wah Yan community stay brave during such a terrifying time? Explore the exhibition to discover the secrets and stories they left behind.

This is a student led research exhibition showcasing the lost wartime history of Wah Yan. The project is inspired by a primary document discovered by the world renowned explorer Dr. Wong How Man of Wah Yan College, Kowloon, class of 1967. He found the manuscript in the study of his father, the late Mr. Wong Chin Wah of Wah Yan College Hong Kong, class of 1938."

A team of Wah Yan students was given a pile of papers, allegedly, journal kept by Fr Bourke, S.J. The Jesuit who stayed in Wah Yan’s Robinson Road campus during the Japanese occupations. These papers have history not only of Wah Yan, but Hong Kong during the WWII not been told. How the students will do with this piece of important history?
