The Parent School runs interactive and educational workshops to help parents better handle everyday issues commonly faced by their children, with a focus on promoting emotional health and wellbeing. We combine practical tips with theories in psychology to come up with strategies that are not only effective but will bring out the best in you as a parent. 近日看見朋友上載女兒一些學校合唱團比賽的相,女兒又叻又靚,就讀學校的合唱團又是全港冠軍獲獎無數。這令我回想起小時後的我也很喜歡唱歌,很渴望入合唱團。可惜學校有嚴格的篩選過程,我唱不到高音當然不合格不被挑選。
但我兒子天生聲線動聽,學唱歌時都被挑選入合唱團,但偏偏他又對此毫無興趣。我想嘗試鼓勵他去發展一下先天的優勢,就對他說:
你知唔知媽咪小時候都很渴望入合唱團,可惜天生聲線不夠好考不進,你天生把聲咁好聽,不想給大家分享一下好聽的歌嗎?為何總是匿埋在廁所裡唱呢?
他問:點解你細個冇得入合唱團呀?
我說:因為要揀最好的聲線,老師認為我不夠好,所以冇揀我。
他問:點解冇揀你呀?
我說:都話唔夠好囉,我天生把聲冇你咁好,所以你唔唱米徙咗囉!
他莫名其妙話:你老師覺得你唔夠好,乜佢唔知你會學,會進步㗎咩?唔好先需要上堂學同練習嘛,這才會有進步,老師不是更加應該收你嗎?
我呆了一會;我從來沒有這樣想過。傳統名校拔尖模式,對我來說是理所當然。要比賽掙冠軍,當然要挑選最佳選手。現在的小朋友年紀小小但水準跟專業成年人沒有兩樣。這種精英制度,卻令我早在8歲時已斷定自己不會唱歌;已接受自己不及別人好這個事實。我兒子讀的國際學校是走包容 [Inclusive] 路線的,課外活動任何有興趣的同學都可參與。有些家長卻嫌這樣不夠認真,比賽又攞唔到獎。。。
失落了獎項,竟然換來意想不到的大獎:成長心態 [Growth Mindset] 。
