We had an exciting evening with our beginner golfers from St John’s College! 🏌️♂️
Instead of practising at the College, 8 students headed to HiTee Training at Quarry Bay for their first-ever simulator session. Following our intro session back in March, the team finally got hands-on (and clubs-on!) last Friday night, 24 April, at the HiTee simulator centre.
A big thank you to Mr John Mak, our dedicated alumnus from Class 2F, for coaching the group through 2 hours of intensive training. 🙌
The students showed great talent – picking up the basics quickly, improving their grip and swing, and some even managed powerful, accurate shots with excellent posture! 🎯⛳
It was a fantastic evening of learning and fun. The team is already planning one or two more sessions in May – stay tuned!

⛳️ FORE! Our First Golf Intro Class Was a SMASHING Success! 🥳🏌️♀️
What a night! 🤩 Last Thursday 26 March 2026, we officially kicked off our Golf Introduction Course for absolute beginners at St John's Common Room, and it was a hole in one! 🙌
A huge thank you to John Mak for stepping up as our pro for the evening! 🎯 He walked everyone through the absolute basics:
✅ How to hold the grip ✊
✅ The swing motion 🏌️♂️
✅ The address position (that's fancy golf talk for getting ready to hit!) 🧘♂️
We had 13 fantastic participants join us, and the best part? Most of them had never played golf before! 🙈 A few had been given "lessons" by their parents growing up (we all know how that goes… 😂), so this was a proper fresh start!
We were also excited to have some postgraduate students join the fun—great to see such a diverse mix of beginners all learning together! 🎓🤝
The energy was amazing, and the best news? So many of them want to keep learning! 🚀
What's next?
We're already working on arranging follow-up courses at an outside simulator facility so everyone can keep swinging and build on what they learned! 🏌️♂️💨
Stay tuned for more details—this is just the beginning! ⛳️🔥
If you missed out this time, don't worry! Let us know if you'd be keen for the next round! 👇😊

What an amazing afternoon at the Alumni Day Cocktail Workshop! 🎓🥂
On Saturday, 14 March 2026, over 25 alumni and friends gathered at the St John's College Dining Hall for a fun-filled evening of mixing, mingling, and masterclass mixology. The workshop kicked off promptly at 4:30 pm and was a resounding success from the very first shake!
Led by fellow HKU alumnus and experienced bartender Mr. SM Li, participants were treated to a hands-on journey through the art of cocktail making. SM delivered an engaging and informative demonstration, skillfully crafting a variety of classic cocktails including:
🍸 Margarita
🍅 Bloody Mary
🌿 Mojito
🥃 Rum & Coke
🍊 Screwdriver
Attendees learned not just the recipes, but the techniques behind the magic – from shaking and stirring to muddling and layering. SM went into great detail, explaining the different methods of cocktail preparation and the distinct categories of cocktails, giving everyone a deeper appreciation for this timeless craft.
The highlight of the evening? Every participant got to make their own cocktail! Under SM's watchful eye, everyone shook, stirred, and poured their way to delicious creations. And as a special souvenir, each attendee took home a free cocktail mixer with other cocktail making equipment – a perfect memento of a memorable evening.
A huge thank you to Mr. SM Li for sharing his expertise and passion, and to all the alumni and friends who joined us. Your energy and enthusiasm made the event truly special!
We hope to see you at future St John's and HKU Alumni events. Until then, cheers to new skills, new friends, and great memories! 🥂

Date: 26 November 2025
Venue: Phoenix Hill Golf Club
The St. John’s College Alumni Association (SJCAA) is delighted to report that the 19th Aquila Golf Day was a tremendous success, bringing together 44 alumni golfers for a day of friendly competition and cherished camaraderie under brilliant sunshine.
The event was blessed with excellent weather, providing the perfect backdrop for a day on the greens.
The spirit of St. John's was palpable as participants, including about 30 alumni who used the coach service arranged by the Association, arrived at the scenic Phoenix Hill Golf Club.
Upon arrival, all participants were warmly welcomed with a special gift: dual-colour cooler golf sleeves featuring the St. John's logo and a beautiful Aquila design.
After a quick lunch, the official proceedings began with a ceremonial tee-off conducted by our esteemed guests: Mr. Vincent Chiu, Dr. Terry Chik, Mr. Ivan Fu, Mr. Kevin Tang, and Ms. Chi Chan. The ceremony was officially opened in spectacular fashion as our guests drove out special exploding golf balls, signalling the start of the competition.
Following this, 11 flights of golfers moved to their respective tee spots for a shotgun start.
After nearly five hours of spirited and friendly competition, the results were as follows:
🏆 Competition Results:
• Inter-Floor Champion Cup: 2/F
• Aquila Cup (Alumni Cup): 1/F
• Men's Gross Champion: Karlos Fung
• Ladies' Gross Champion: Emily Sun
• Men's Net Champion: John Mak
• Ladies' Net Champion: Iris Hau
• Men's Longest Drive: Kevin Tang & Jacky Au
• Ladies' Longest Drive: Cynthia Fan & Connie Chung
• Closest to the Pin: Karlos Fung, Norman Law, Carven Tsang & Godwin Lee
• Most Supportive Floor: 1/F
The day culminated in a celebratory closing dinner, prize presentation ceremony, and lucky draw. We extend our deepest gratitude to all our generous donors and sponsors; thanks to their incredible support, almost every attendee went home with a prize from the lucky draw.
The event concluded on a high note as coaches departed Phoenix Hill, returning participants to Kowloon Tong and Tin Hau, with the final drop-off around 9:30 PM.
The SJCAA extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and the organizing committee (Dr Terry Chik, Dr. John So, Mr. Kevin Tang, Ms. Selina Wong and Ms. Cynthia Fan. The 19th Aquila Golf Day was a perfect example of how sport can unite us, strengthening the ties that bind the St. John's family together.
