What is RWI in phonics?

Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics program that helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling. It also allows them to spell effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into composing what they write.

A fun way I engage my students to learn grammar is to design posters! When they have fun creating their own poster about verbs and/or rules about tenses, they really tend to build interest in the topic, which enables them to remember it better! It can be glued anywhere in their room until they achieve full understanding!

How to help your kids to study:

1. Foster learning interest
Fostering learning interest is a long-term plan to drive your kids to learn. You can inspire their interest in learning and their thirst for knowledge by helping them search for information.

2. Spend quality time together
Arrange some time to spend with your kids every day. You should put aside your own work and activities completely and dedicate your time to your kids such as listening to them, reading books or newspapers with them, or discussing some inspirational TV programs with them.

3. Set the schedule together
Parents can involve their kids in setting the schedule because they are more willing to follow their own decisions and carry out their own plans. Breaks and activity periods should be allocated to let them rest and improve their efficiency in studying.

4. Start from easy to difficult
When setting the schedule with your kids, you may suggest that they start with the subject that they like or they think is easier. This can help boost their confidence.

5. Develop their self-discipline
At the beginning of their schooling, you may guide your kids in doing their homework. However, parents should gradually withdraw after their kids have mastered the skills. Let your kids understand that studying is their responsibility.

6. Commitment to their growth
Everybody has his/her own talents and potential. You should also encourage your kids to participate in different extra-curriculum activities, study groups, or interest classes to help them develop their potential.

7. Set up a comfortable studying environment
Make sure that your kids have a quiet study room or area. Keep noise or distractions out of their sight. Make sure their chair is comfy and their desk is clear from clutter. Make them interested in studying by preparing some fun highlighters and writing books.
