How do you say "hat-trick" in French? 🇫🇷⚽

It's Coup du chapeau (koo doo shah-poh).
Literally? "Stroke of the hat."

But where does "hat trick" actually come from? The real story: Cricket. England. 1858.

Bowlers would collect money in a hat when they took three wickets in three straight deliveries. They got a "hat trick" — a phrase that later crossed over to football, hockey, and baseball.

France simply translated it beautifully: Coup du chapeau.

And then there's the chant: Allez les Bleus!
It means "Go the Blues!" — but here's the real history:

In 1976, the French club Saint-Étienne (wearing green) made an incredible European Cup run. Their fans chanted "Allez les Verts!" (Go the Greens!) — and a song by that name became a massive hit.

A French sports journalist named Jacques Ferran saw this and thought: why not adapt it for the national team?

On 17 November 1976, a match report first called the French team "Les Bleus" in print. Two years later, for the 1978 World Cup, the official song "Allez les Bleus!" was born.

Today, it's still the first thing you hear when France scores. Every stadium. Every match. Every fan.
