In Memory of Dr. Teoh Chan Ching Haan

It is with deep sadness the Department announces the passing away of Dr. Teoh Chan Ching Haan on November 2, 2023.

Dr. Teoh Chan joined the Department of Microbiology, The University of Hong Kong as Demonstrator in September 1952, and promoted to Reader since July 1975. She formally retired in April 1999.

Dr. Teoh Chan was a passionate and caring teacher. She was the wife of the late Dr. Teoh Tiaw Bee who was the pioneer of the Pathology profession in Hong Kong. Many of us would remembered Dr. Teoh Chan as our beloved and motherly microbiology “Qima 契媽” teacher when she gave lectures and practicals in the University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD in Microbiology from the University of Hong Kong in 1967 under the supervision of the late Professor C. T. Huang and Professor Robert Kirk. She was a founding Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Pathologists.

Dr. Teoh Chan will be dearly missed and remembered as an outstanding teacher and a knowledgeable scholar. We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Teoh Chan’s family.
