Congratulations to Ir Prof. Ming ZHANG, Head of Department of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on being elected as Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBME) Fellow (中國生物醫學工程學會會士)!

Founded in 1980, the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBME) is a national first-class society, which is rated 4A by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is the only professional society in China that integrates scientific research, teaching, clinical practice and research and development.

At present, CSBME has more than 45,000 members comprised of professionals in the field of biomedical engineering. There are 45 distinguished scholars elected as CSBME Fellows since 2024 and Prof. ZHANG is one of the seven newly-appointed CSBME Fellows in 2026.

Prof. ZHANG was also the founding Chair of the first CSBME Rehabilitation Engineering Technical Committee. Today, the Rehabilitation Engineering branch has become the Society's largest and most exemplary division by membership, maintaining a long-standing, deep involvement in the society’s various academic endeavors.

【Qiangnao and PolyU Launch “People-Oriented Technology Programme” to Deploy Cutting-Edge Intelligent Bionic Limbs for Hong Kong Amputees】

The true value of technology lies in transforming lives. Qiangnao Technology and PolyU have jointly launched the “People-Oriented Technology Programme” to introduce cutting-edge intelligent bionic hands and knee joints to Hong Kong. Supported by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), the initial phase of the Programme will be managed by the PolyU team, aiming to fit 60 local amputees with these intelligent prostheses free of charge:

🦾 Intelligent bionic hands: Control hand movements by accurately detecting myoelectric and neural signals. After training, users can easily perform delicate daily tasks such as writing or playing musical instruments.
🦿Intelligent bionic knee joints: Equipped with multi-sensors and a smart hydraulic system to detect and adapt to users' walking intentions in real time. They demonstrate exceptional flexibility whether walking on flat ground, climbing stairs, switching walking speeds, or participating in sports activities. They also feature built-in emergency-stop and fall-prevention protections to ensure comprehensive safety.

Housing Hong Kong’s only internationally recognised education and training pathway for prosthetics and orthotics, PolyU is fully committed to driving the local implementation of this top-tier intelligent prosthetic technology. The team will continuously optimise the user experience, bringing tangible benefits to citizens in need. 🤝
