The startup team "AIoTR Academy Limited" led by student members won the "Global Challenge Award - 21st Century Education” at the HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition 2021.👏🏻🥳The team members include Babar Hussain (PhD in ECE), Hoi Chuen Cheng (MPhil in ECE), and alumnus Alex Leung (ECE), Rheaa Maheswari (MSc in EEM) and James Lam (BBA). The team is supervised by Prof. Patrick Yue.

A.IoT.R Academy A aims to address the strong demand for innovative education technology platform in Hong Kong and other leading cities to teach the next generation of engineers, architects, and designers the advanced concepts of smart cities. They have developed a pioneering Edu-tech solution for learning AI, IoT, & Robotics in a deep-dive, easy-out manner.🦾🤖Their unique curriculum is based on hardware-software co-design, hands-on and project-based experiential learning using HKUST-patented technology LiPHY.💫

LiPHY technology deployed at HKUST Startup Runway 2021

Startup Runway 2021, organized by the Entrepreneurship Center and The BASE Entrepreneurship Ambassadors, is a showcase where they introduce HKUST’s vibrant startup community to all members of HKUST.

The Startup Runway 2021 was held on 15 & 16th September at the Academic Concourse on the HKUST campus.

Each Startup Booth were given a LiPHY Lightbox to help them with their product promotion, online voting and much more.

Visitors were asked to use the LiPHY Smart City app (available for iOS and Android) for
- Getting the information on startups,
- Voting for their favourite startup and
- Collecting Bookmarks which earned them cool prizes from the Entrepreneurship Center

We recorded a total of 160 users and 3427 Light scans in just 2 days.

LiPHY at HKUST StartUP Runway 2021

Introducing: LiPHY 💡

LiPHY has developed a disruptive technology that will change how you will experience museums, retail, or any other interactive indoor activity. Using Visible Light Communication (VLC) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, LiPHY allows users to pick up external information just by pointing their smartphone at objects outfitted with LiPHY's light emitting devices. At the StartUP Runway 2021, you will be able to try out their technology simply by downloading the LiPHY app and scanning the LiPHY light panels at each booth.

AIoTR Academy is pioneering Ed-tech solutions for learning AI, IoT, & Robotics in a deep-dive, easy-out way. We aim to teach students hands-on skills that empower them to become future smart cities creators.

Role Description:

• Develop our advanced STEM app architecture and implementation.
• Develop and improve our STEM platform’s architecture and implementation.
• Collaborative with partner organizations and strong advocates for open source.
• Position will be based in Hong Kong but is also open to remote work within Hong Kong.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or Experienced in Web development
• Familiar with JavaScript, JSX and Scripting languages (e.g., Python)
• Familiar with Node.JS, or React.JS
• Knowledge of common coding languages such as java or C++
• Experience utilizing an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) (e.g., Visual studio Code)
• Familiar with version control software (e.g., GitHub)
• Bonus Skill - Understanding of cloud principles (Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, etc.)
• Ability to collaborate with mentors on a team effort.
• Responsible, reliable, and have a solid character.
• Well organized, disciplined, and responsible with a good work ethic
• Able to work both independently and in a team.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese.
