The Department of Sociology, CUHK is pleased to announce a webinar entitled “Did Health Inequalities Fall when Life Expectancy Went Up? Data from 82 Million Digitised Records.” The webinar is scheduled for May 7, 2026 (Thursday), from 03:00 p.m. to 04:30 p.m. (Hong Kong Time) and will be conducted via Zoom. Honorable speaker, Prof. Aaron REEVES from the London School of Economics and Political Science, will deliver the webinar.

Synopsis:
The Sustainable Development Goals are intertwined and have differential impacts on the health of people. The session will discuss the impact of climate change to older people in Hong Kong, how physical and social environment affects their unequal healthy aging and why such environment is important to building an age-friendly city in Hong Kong.

Drawing insights from their research and experiences in Australia and Hong Kong, Dr. Grace Rose and Dr. Anson Kai Chun Chau will examine the healthcare systems of both economies and what can be done to improve the situation, moderated by Professor Nancy Pachana and Professor Jean Woo.
