The opening ceremony of the 2026 media training summer camp, organized by VDO English — the educational arm of China Daily Hong Kong — was held on Tuesday at Hing Wai Centre in Hong Kong. Now in its 8th consecutive year, the program is hugely popular among secondary school students with media aspirations from the Chinese mainland. More than 30 participants gathered at the event, embarking on an immersive media practice journey to build professional competency and gain first-hand industry experience. They will complete a full schedule of hands-on training and real-world media assignments throughout the summer program.

Hong Kong Disneyland’s all-new Pixar Summer Fest runs from June 12 to August 31, packed with exclusive seasonal fun for all Pixar lovers.

Highlights include the brand-new drone fountain night show Pixar Pals Spectacular, two lively daytime parades, a draw and meet character workshop, Pixar-themed food and limited collectible merchandise.
Hidden Pixar Easter eggs can also be spotted across city street signs this summer.

The 2026 “21st Century Cup” English Speaking Competition semi-final round of Kindergarten Category, co-organized by China Daily and VDO English, the educational arm of China Daily Hong Kong, was held on Saturday and Sunday at Olympic House in Wan Chai district.
Nearly 200 participants delivered impassioned speeches in the this round, demonstrating their linguistic proficiency as well as their critical thinking and creativity.
TANG Hei Lam Josephine, first place of the Kindergarten Category Grade 1 in Semi-Final round, said her favorite part of the speech was the penguin segment, and she felt happy and fully confident on stage, having learned the value of consistent practice from the competition. “Keep on practicing and try your best,” she said.
Josephine’s mother expressed immense pride in her daughter’s performance, noting the young contestant had gained remarkable confidence through dedicated practice ahead of the semi-final. “Practice makes perfect. More stage time helps them grow,” she said.
“I didn’t expect our little contestants to be so brave, with some delivering extraordinary and astonishing performances. More gestures, facial expressions and a big smile will make your speech even better,” said Germen Hon, an adjudicator for the competition. This is in his fourth year judging the event, with this being his first time overseeing the kindergarten category.
The semi-final round for other categories will take place on April 25. Winners of the semi-final round will go to the final round of this competition, which will be held on May 9.
