Itโ€™s World AMR Awareness Week, and there are things you need to know:

๐Ÿฆ  Antimicrobial resistance or AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites no longer respond to treatment.

๐Ÿ’Š Antimicrobials are medicines used to prevent and treat infections, such as antibiotics and antivirals.

๐Ÿค’ The overuse and misuse of antimicrobials causes microbes to adapt and become resistant, making medicine ineffective against infections.

โš ๏ธ AMR threatens our ability to treat common infections and to perform life-saving procedures.

AMR kills more people annually than any single infectious disease. Staying healthy is important to protect yourself from AMR. Hereโ€™s what you can do:

โœ… Keep your hands clean
โœ… Only take antibiotics when prescribed
โœ… Never share antibiotics
โœ… Stay up-to-date with your vaccines

AMR can affect anyone - turning minor injuries, routine surgeries, or common infections into life-threatening situations.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป If we act now, we can still preserve the effectiveness of life-saving treatments.
