institution undergo a number of name changes. In the late 1970’s its name changed to Guymine Technical Training Complex (GTTC) and this name was carried until 1990. From Guymine Technical Training Complex its name changed to LINMINE Technical Training Complex (LTTC) 1990-1993. When it came under the umbrella of the Bauxite Industry Development Company (BIDCO) it was then called the BIDCO Technical Training Complex (BTTC). In 1996 the institution was transferred to the Ministry of Education and became known as the Linden Technical Institute (L.T.I). Training of apprentices was formerly done on a highly selective basic with the objective of preparing small numbers of trainees for work within the industry. The first two (2) years of training were done within the institute whilst the final three (3) years were spent gaining practical experience in various departments in the plant. Today, however, training is restricted to a two (2) year classroom stint for most of the courses with students receiving actual work experience whilst on ‘’summer’’ attachments. The Institute currently has three (3) departments offering courses in the following areas:
1. The Buildings Department: Craft Certificate in Radio and Electronic Servicing, Electrical Installation Parts 1 & 2, Basic Craft Certificate in Radio and Electronic Servicing and Electrical Wiring and Technician Certificate in Telecommunication Part 1.
2. The Business Department offers: Ordinary Diploma in Commerce, Diploma in Administrative Principles and Practices, and Diploma in Computer Science
3. The Mechanical Department offers: Craft Certificate courses in Welding & Fabrication, Metal Machining & Mechanical Fitting and the Technician Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Part1. On 1st August, 2005 the institute was designated a board run learning institution in accordance with the President’s College Act 1990
The institute can be credited for providing training opportunities to over five thousand students from the period 1995 to present. Approximately eight hundred (800) of those who have commenced formal training completed their course and were graduated. Special course of short and medium duration were also conducted for Agencies such as the IDB, CIDA, SIMAP, Ministry of Labour and LEAP. These accounted for another four hundred and eighty six (486) trainees for the world of work.
