Taking Government Services to Muritaro
As part of the Regional Democratic Council's ongoing community outreach initiative, Regional Executive Officer Dr. Gregory Harris, accompanied by Regional Education Officer Ms. La Shanna Anderson, Regional Health Officer Dr. Vancooten, Regional Engineer Mr. Thomas, and other regional officials, visited Muritaro today.
A key focus of the visit was the assessment of the community's educational facilities in preparation for the reopening of schools for the 2026/2027 academic year. The team inspected the school's infrastructure to identify repair and maintenance needs, ensuring that the learning environment is safe, functional, and conducive to quality teaching and learning.
The visit also allowed education officials to engage with stakeholders, assess the school's readiness for the new academic year, and identify priority interventions that will support improved educational delivery and student outcomes. Today, the Department of Education, Region 10 proudly observed Pre-Emancipation in anticipation of Emancipation Day 2026.
The observance provided an opportunity for staff to celebrate the rich heritage, resilience, and invaluable contributions of our African ancestors while reflecting on the enduring significance of freedom, unity, and cultural identity.
Dressed in vibrant African-inspired attire, staff members embraced the spirit of the occasion, reaffirming the Department's commitment to preserving our history and ensuring that future generations appreciate the sacrifices that paved the way for the Guyana we know today.
As we celebrate Emancipation, may we continue to honour the legacy of those who came before us by promoting education, equality, respect, and national pride.

Today We Bury Our Dead...But Her Memory Lives On
Today, Regional Education Officer, Ms. La Shanna Anderson, joined the family, friends, colleagues, former students, and loved ones of Ms. Maylene Stephens, Senior Assistant Mistress of Mackenzie High School, to pay final respects as they celebrated her life and legacy.
On behalf of the Department of Education, Region 10, Ms. Anderson expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Mackenzie High School community. She reflected that the passing of Ms. Stephens is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of showing kindness, compassion, and understanding to one another. She noted that the education fraternity is more than a workplace, it is a family that mourns, supports, and stands together during times of loss.

Bye, Bye, paper CAPE Application. All applications for CAPE are now fully digitized.
I am very pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has digitized the Sixth Form application process. Students can now apply for admission to Sixth Form entirely online, making the process faster, easier and more accessible for students and families across Guyana. This is another important step in our ongoing efforts to modernize the education system and improve service delivery.

The Department of Education, Region 10, continues to prioritize the development of safe, modern and technology-driven learning environments for our students and teachers.
Today, Regional Executive Officer Dr. Gregory Harris, Regional Education Officer Ms. La Shanna Anderson, and Regional Engineer Mr. Gavin Clarke conducted a monitoring visit to Mackenzie High School to assess the progress of several major infrastructural projects currently underway in preparation for the reopening of school for the 2026/2027 Academic Year.
The team inspected the ongoing complete rewiring of the school, the construction of a new six-classroom block, and the establishment of a modern AutoCAD Laboratory. These critical initiatives are intended to improve the school's infrastructure, enhance safety through a modern electrical system, expand classroom accommodation, and provide students with access to advanced technical and digital learning opportunities.
Upon completion, these projects will significantly enhance the delivery of education by creating a safer and more conducive learning environment, alleviating classroom congestion, and strengthening the school's capacity to deliver technical and vocational education. The new AutoCAD Laboratory will equip students with industry-relevant digital design skills, preparing them for further education and future careers in engineering, architecture, construction, and related fields.

Visit to 47 Miles
As part of the Department of Education Region 10's ongoing programme of supervisory and infrastructural monitoring, Regional Education Officer Ms. La Shanna Anderson today conducted a site visit to 47 Miles, accompanied by the Regional Engineer and Regional Electrician.
The team inspected the newly constructed Teachers' Quarters, assessing its overall readiness for occupancy. The provision of suitable accommodation is critical to attracting and retaining teachers in remote communities while ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of quality education.
The visit also included an assessment of the 47 Miles Primary School, where ongoing and future infrastructural needs were examined to ensure that the learning environment remains safe, functional, and conducive to effective teaching and learning. Additionally, the team inspected the existing Headteacher's residence to determine its current condition and identify any maintenance and rehabilitation works necessary to improve living conditions.

𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐄 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 || The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce the launch of a fully online application process for students seeking admission to the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) programme in selected public secondary schools across Guyana.
This new digital application system is now OPEN and is designed to improve efficiency, increase accessibility, and provide a more streamlined and transparent experience for applicants. Students will no longer be required to complete paper-based application forms, as the entire application process can now be completed online.

Applicants should follow these simple steps:
1. Go directly to https://services.education.gov.gy.
2. Click on CAPE 6th Form Application.
3. Click Start Application and complete Steps 1-8
4. Complete the CAPE application form, upload the required supporting documents, and
submit your application electronically.
5. Applicants can monitor the status of their application through the online portal.
The introduction of the online CAPE application portal is part of the Ministry's broader commitment to digital transformation and enhanced service delivery.
By leveraging technology, the Ministry aims to simplify administrative processes, reduce processing times, improve the accuracy of applicant information, and provide students with a more convenient way to access educational opportunities.

National Placement Examination 2026
Today, eligible and registered students from Grades 7–10, including remigrant students, sat the Ministry of Education's National Placement Examination.
The examination is conducted annually to provide qualifying students with an opportunity to gain placement at a higher-list secondary school or a national school, in accordance with the Ministry of Education's placement policy.
Eligibility for the examination includes students who attained an overall average of 80% in their Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3 examinations, as well as eligible remigrant students whose registrations were approved based on the Ministry of Education's established guidelines.
Important Note: Students who wrote the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) in the same year that the National Placement Examination is administered are not eligible to sit the examination in that same year. They become eligible to write the National Placement Examination in the following year, provided they satisfy the Ministry of Education's established eligibility requirements.

Today, Regional Education Officer Ms. La Shanna Anderson conducted a supervisory visit to 58 Miles in the company of the Regional Engineer and the Regional Electrician to assess the infrastructural needs of the school and its facilities.
The visit focused on preparations for the teachers' quarters, ensuring that the necessary works are identified and completed to provide safe, comfortable, and suitable accommodation for non-resident teachers. Strengthening staff accommodation is an important step toward attracting and retaining qualified educators in our hinterland communities while supporting the continued delivery of quality education.
