Industry Professionals Inspire GITC Welding Trainees

The Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) was pleased to welcome Mr. Dexter Cohen of Jamaica and Mr. Kiefer Mc Andrew, Structural and Pipeline Welder at Saipem Guyana Inc., for an engaging and informative session with trainees from the Welding Workshop.
During the visit, the presenters shared valuable insights into the welding profession, highlighting industry standards, workplace expectations, and the importance of developing both technical competence and professional work ethics.
Mr. Mc Andrew also provided practical guidance on welding techniques, career development, and the exciting opportunities available within Saipem Guyana Inc. He encouraged trainees to remain committed to continuous learning and skill development as they prepare to enter the workforce.
The session offered trainees a unique opportunity to interact with experienced industry professionals, gain firsthand knowledge of the demands of the profession, and better understand the pathways available for career growth in the welding sector.

GITC 60TH ANNIVERSARY PUBLIC AWARENESS DAY
The Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) proudly hosted its 60th Anniversary Public Awareness Day on Thursday, May 21st, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Recreational Park, Lamaha and Albert Street, Georgetown held under the theme: “Advancing Technical Skills for Tomorrow’s Workforce”.
This significant activity formed part of the institution’s 60th Anniversary celebrations and was opened to the general public, with a special focus on schools across the Georgetown regions. Students were given the opportunity to visit exhibits, interact with trainees and instructors, and learn more about the programmes, workshops, and training opportunities available at GITC.
Trainees and instructors proudly showcased their creativity, technical expertise, and innovation through various displays and exhibits while engaging visitors and sharing knowledge about the different workshops and classrooms and the skills developed within each programme area.
The event also provided an opportunity for prospective students and members of the public to receive information about the institution, complete application forms, and participate in briefing sessions for those desirous of enrolling at GITC for the upcoming academic year.
We extend sincere appreciation to the companies and stakeholders who came on board and supported this venture. Your partnership and contribution played an integral role in making this activity a success as we continue our mission of empowering and preparing the workforce of tomorrow through technical and vocational education and training.

Congratulations to Our Successful BIST Trainees

The Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) proudly congratulates the 57 trainees who successfully completed the Basic Industrial Safety Training (BIST) programme conducted during October – November 2025.
This achievement reflects your commitment to developing the knowledge, awareness, and practical competencies required to promote safety within industrial and workplace environments. Your dedication to learning and professional growth is commendable and serves as a testament to your readiness to contribute positively to the workforce.
This training initiative was conducted through Learn Crop International in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), and the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI).
