ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

ALFRED MENTORE | Class of 1988

North Georgetown Secondary School was one chapter in a remarkable journey that would span business, sport, community leadership and politics, ultimately leading Alfred Mentore to the Mayor’s Office of Georgetown.

A career spanning entrepreneurship, real estate, sport and politics has shaped a leader whose path has taken him into some of the most influential spaces in Guyana.

Today, as Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred carries the responsibility of helping shape the future of the nation’s capital and serving the people of the city.

As the founder and head of Lifetime Group, a contracting and investment advisory company, Alfred has built more than 25 years of experience in real estate and development, working across residential, commercial and industrial sectors and helping to facilitate investment opportunities throughout Guyana.

His commitment to public service has grown through years of civic leadership. He served as a City Councillor representing Constituency #4, followed by his role as Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, before becoming Mayor. His leadership journey reflects a willingness to take on responsibility and contribute to the development of his community.

Beyond politics and business, Alfred has made his mark in sport, serving as President of the Demerara Cricket Club, President of the Georgetown Cricket Association and Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board. He has also served as a Director and Board Member of the Central Housing and Water Authority and as Secretary of the Guyana Association of Municipalities.

His pursuit of education has been equally meaningful. Alfred did undergraduate studies for a Diploma in Banking and Finance from the University of Guyana and later completed his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at the same institution.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and public responsibilities, Alfred is a devoted husband and a proud father of two, Sarah and Jonathan.

Alfred’s story reminds us that leadership is not simply about reaching a position, but about being prepared to accept the responsibility that comes with it. His journey from an NGSS student, a Saint Stanislaus College alumnus, a University of Guyana graduate to the leadership of Georgetown demonstrates how education, experience and a commitment to community can come together to create a lasting impact.

NGSS STUDENTS AT YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE (YEC) 2026

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) hosted its inaugural Youth Entrepreneurship Conference (YEC) 2026 under the theme “Igniting Guyana’s Next Generation of Entrepreneurs.”

The forum brought together young people for a day of learning, discussion and interactive sessions focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and business development.

Participants had the opportunity to choose from a range of breakout sessions, including Tourism & Hospitality, Arts, Fashion, Design & Animation, Marketing, Communications & PR, Agro-Processing & Light Manufacturing, AI-Augmented Entrepreneurship, and Turning Technology into Business.

We are pleased that some of our NGSS students participated in this exciting initiative, gaining exposure to new ideas, practical knowledge and the many possibilities available to young entrepreneurs.

We look forward to seeing our students continue to explore, learn and take advantage of opportunities that help prepare them for the future.

Today, we come together as a school community to remind one another that every life has value and every person matters.

STOP BULLYING 🚫

Representatives from the Ministry of Education visited North Georgetown Secondary School in support of the “Stop the Bullying” Campaign, presenting the school with flyers that have been strategically placed throughout the school to reinforce this important message.

Our students also participated in the visit, helping to spread awareness and promote a culture of respect, kindness and empathy within our school community.

Together, let’s continue to stand against bullying and create a school environment where every student feels safe, valued and respected. 💙

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
LENARD McRAE | Class of 2010

Some journeys are worth telling.

From his years as a student at North Georgetown Secondary School to his rise as a respected leader in Guyana’s financial services sector, Lenard McRae’s story is one of ambition, perseverance, determination and continuous growth.

After graduating from NGSS in 2010, Lenard entered the banking sector as a Currency Supply Clerk. What followed was a remarkable professional journey built on hard work, strong performance and a commitment to excellence.

At Republic Bank, Lenard steadily climbed the ranks, advancing through an impressive nine positions before becoming Officer in Charge of the Retail Lending Unit. He later joined Scotiabank Guyana as a Business Banking Manager, continuing to build his expertise and leadership experience within the financial services industry.

Along the way, Lenard continued to invest in himself academically, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Guyana and a Master of Business Administration from the University of East London.

His dedication and contributions have also been recognized through awards for innovation, results orientation, sales, customer service and his contribution to sports.

Then, in 2023, another defining chapter unfolded.

Lenard assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of EveryData (Guyana) Inc., Guyana’s licensed credit bureau, a remarkable achievement and another milestone in a career built step by step.

But perhaps what makes Lenard’s story most inspiring is not simply the titles he has earned or the positions he has held. It is the purpose behind his success.

Today, Lenard is passionate about financial inclusion and creating greater access to financial services, while also investing in people, supporting education and serving his community.

Beyond the boardroom, he is a devoted husband, father and family man, guided by the values of faith, discipline, compassion and perseverance.

Lenard McRae’s journey from humble beginnings to executive leadership is a powerful example of what can be achieved through hard work, continuous growth and a commitment to making a difference.
