This association is an education and training organization and it shall be called Jan & Joy Carew Ed Doodnauth Singh
2 Vice-Chairman - Mr. Hubert Graham
Jan & Joy Carew Education Centre is established in honor of Professors Jan and Joy Carew and to continue their lifelong pursuits to make a difference in the lives of all people. The Centre aims to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and excellence for organization members by providing career guidance, training and resources to achieve consistently high level of technical, consulting, busin
ess and professional competencies and facilitate learning, developmental activities and other resources, accessible through a central repository that offers multiple delivery methods and a blended learning approach. In addition, it will facilitate programs to help writers in all genres, and at all stages of their development, to steer a course through the complexities of the writing life, build and sustain their careers, welcoming writers of all levels, published or unpublished, from all backgrounds and from every community. All in all, this organization will also seek to recognize individuals and organizations that are consistently ignored/ by-passed by successive governments/institutions although they excel in their respective disciplines. As management and creative writing continue to expand, individuals have little opportunity to interact with their peers in other organizations in order to compare, share, and learn from each other. While there are other professional organizations that provide education, association, conferences, or meetings, all too often these groups appeal more to established professionals and staff who are either mid-way through their careers or in top positions. It is the goal of the Centre to eventually set up a writers’ colony where individuals can live and pursue full time writing at minimal cost. The Centre will be funded through grants, gifts, donations and proceeds from cost recovery initiatives and fundraising activities. Our value will be to create and deliver important educational services and events that are directed at the specific needs of organizations: women headed households, single parents, fishermen, farmers, Amerindians and youths, and little/ unknown creative writers. The organization is designed to respond to the unique needs of these groups and individuals who are increasingly responsible for their own growth and development. We have formed this organization not to compete with the many fine professional organizations, but rather to focus on the needs of aforementioned individuals, to learn quickly and objectively, to make the right decisions for themselves or their organizations in the midst of dramatic changes and rapid pace development, and to improve their interactions and relationships with other already established organizations/persons. We have selected an excellent team of Board Directors, who are broad-based across Guyana and abroad, organizations, and geographies who will help us create and deliver unique and valuable services for this special initiative.
