Go Jags Go! MS/ HS Sports’ Day brought track races (some students trying to qualify for Nationals), Lime and Spoon, Two-Three Legged Races, Water and Sponge Relays, and Sack Races. Students expressed wanting more traditional games of Guyana so Dog and Bone and Saal Out were a part of the fun. The day finished with two epics rounds House teams’ tug of war and a student v. staff round with students taking the victory. House competitions, school spirit, hard work, and sportsmanship were evident in the middle and high school.

Robotics Meets Basketball: Student Agency in Action at GIA!
Our Middle School Robotics students are taking on Buckyball, an exciting challenge to design, build, and program robots that use a catapult mechanism.

With a framework to guide their learning, students had the freedom to take ownership of their research, explore different designs, develop strategies, and make their own engineering decisions.

Through hands-on experimentation, collaboration, and friendly competition, our Jaguars are putting engineering, programming, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills into action. Along the way, they receive feedback, apply it in real time, troubleshoot challenges, and refine their designs.

At GIA, learning is about more than reaching the finish line. It’s about curiosity, creativity, ownership, and persistence empowering students to take risks, learn from feedback, and develop the skills of lifelong learners.

The GIA Alumni Network continues to grow. Our recent Alumni Meet Up in Miami brought members of the GIA community together for an evening of reconnecting, reminiscing, and celebrating. It was a lovely evening listening to stories from GIA’s 55 Year History spanning the early- mid 2000’’s to present. And, now we look forward to connecting more in NYC, Saturday, September 14th, 2026 at the Hide Rooftop. These events are open to GIA Alumni including graduates, former students, parents, and teachers. RSVP today and help us spread through the word.

Our grade six students launched GIA’s first Classroom Without Walls along the Canje Creek, an experience designed to take learning beyond the classroom and into Guyana. Students demonstrated curiosity, courage, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones, connecting with each other and with Guyana in meaningful, hands-on ways. Experiences like this build skills that last beyond a single project, including collaboration, problem-solving, communication, adaptability, and a deeper sense of global mindedness. Our students aren’t just learning about Guyana they are learning how to learn with empathy, awareness, and real-world context. Follow along as we continue to learn beyond the classroom. #

Discover GIA: Middle and High School (Grades 6-12) Open House for Prospective Families. Join us on Sept. 22nd and learn about AP Courses and the IBDP Diploma Programme, direct pathways to universities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and around the world. Prospective families will be informed of how students can graduate with a U.S. High School Diploma, and an IB Diploma. This is an excellent opportunity for families of middle and high school students who will complete their CXC/ CSEC requirements can apply to join GIA to earn a U.S. High School Diploma to access U.S. and internatiomal university pathways. Lower School Back to School Night! On September 3rd, we welcome our LS parents to campus for BTSN. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with teachers, visit classrooms, learn about the year ahead, and experience the learning environment their children engage each day. Designing the Future of Learning at GIA. GIA is excited to be working with Fielding International as we envision and design the third floor of our campus creating spaces that will support learning, collaboration, creativity, and our growing school community.

In May, the Fielding International team joined us for a Discovery Visit, engaging with GIA stakeholders across our community. They came to listen, learn, observe, and understand our school’s vision and culture while exploring how our students learn, how our educators teach, and how our community hopes to use this new space.

Now, the process moves into its next exciting phase!

Fielding International returns to GIA this week to share and review initial designs, gather feedback, and continue refining ideas for our third floor.

We’re excited to see the vision taking shape and to share more with our community as the design process continues. Stay tuned!

September is rolling in and although the summer vibes are lingering, MS/ HS Rock Band is feeling motivated. Collaborating and practicing for upcoming performances. MS/ HS Rock Band is one of many clubs that provides opportunities for students to explore their talents, interests, and develop their leadership skills.
