ISKF-GUYANA is proud to announce that Britney Bettencourt and Christopher Harrison have successfully earned the rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black belt). The promotional examination took place on Friday, March 27, 2026.
The rigorous exam was conducted by Sensei Christopher Chaves (6th Dan) and tested the candidates across the core disciplines of Shotokan Karate: Kihon, Kumite, and Kata.
Both Bettencourt and Harrison demonstrated exceptional technique, speed and power throughout the evaluation.
Their promotion marks a significant milestone in their martial arts journeys, reflecting years of dedication, discipline, and consistent training.
ISKF-GUYANA extends its heartfelt congratulations to both Karatekas on this prestigious achievement. We look forward to their continued growth within the dojo as they enter this new chapter of their training.

ISKF-GUYANA is proud to announce the successful completion of its first grading exercise for 2026. The event took place at our headquarters dojo in the National Park on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27, 2026.
The sessions were conducted by Sensei Christopher Chaves (6th Dan), who oversaw the technical evaluation of the students.
ISKF-GUYANA was also pleased to host students from several sister dojos and partner schools, including Georgetown International Academy, New Eden School of Excellence, and the Canadian School of Arts and Science.
A total of 130 students successfully graded and achieved higher Kyu ranks. Among the notable performances was that of Jonathan Butters, who earned a double promotion from 8th Kyu to 6th Kyu. Jonathan was recognized for displaying the exceptional discipline and martial spirit that ISKF-GUYANA strives to instill in all its students.
The success of the program was made possible through the dedicated support of the instructional team. Special thanks are extended to Sempais Marlon George, Alex Rodrigues, Kristalia Chaves, Kristian Chaves, Brandon Yong, Justin Sampson, Feonia Yong, and Jessica Callender. Recognition is also given to Senior Blackbelts Stephanie Kerry, Talitha Kissoon, Rosita Katchay, and Mena Chetty, along with the Junior Blackbelts who assisted in coordinating the two-day event.
ISKF-GUYANA remains committed to the development of discipline and character building within the community.
