Message of Sympathy on the MV Barima Tragedy

The Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Guyana extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected by the tragic sinking of the MV Barima.

We are profoundly saddened by this heartbreaking event and the pain it has brought to those who have lost loved ones, as well as to those who continue to await news of family members and friends. During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with all who have been impacted and hold them in our thoughts and prayers.

This tragedy is a solemn reminder of the importance of safeguarding the lives of all who rely on our waterways for transportation and livelihood. We also acknowledge the tireless efforts of the search, rescue, and emergency response teams who have worked with dedication under challenging circumstances.

As a Faculty committed to the wellbeing and development of our nation, we mourn alongside the people of Guyana and reaffirm our support for all those affected by this devastating loss. May those who have passed rest in eternal peace, and may their families and loved ones find strength, comfort, and hope in the care and compassion of the wider community.

Our thoughts remain with everyone touched by this tragedy.
