University of the Southern Caribbean Guyana Extension Site Graduation Celebration
On Sunday, the University of the Southern Caribbean Guyana Extension Site held a graduation celebration to recognize the acheivements of the 2021/2022 graduates along with their families. Twenty (20) students from the schools of Business and Entrepreneurship, Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Theology and Religion, and Education crossed the stage robed and armed with their diploma jackets. The students were greeted by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Guyana Mr. Alfred King, the event speaker, and University of the Southern Caribbean Provost, Dr. Wanda Chesney. Of the twenty students that participated, fourteen of them completed their entire program from the extension site and graduated in 2022. Three undergraduate and ten graduate students from 2021 also participated in the celebration.
A continuous round of applause and screams of cheer from peers and families erupted as the students made their way across the stage. The students officially graduated last Sunday as their names were called and degrees conferred in Trinidad and Tobago at the main campus ceremony. The students could not physically attend the Trinidad and Tobago ceremony and were given the opportunity to celebrate and cross the stage with their families and friends present.
The event organized by the site coordinator Ms. Mignon Sancho was well executed. Dr. Wanda Chesney, USC Provost brought greetings on behalf of the University President and Administrators. Speaking at the event was also the Director of Education, Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Ms. Margaret Ramsaran, and Director of USC Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Academic Planning Committee Dr. Ivor English. The celebration speaker, Permanent Secretary Mr. Alfred King, expressed congratulations to the graduates on behalf of the Minister of Education Ms. Priya Manickchand, and encouraged students not to allow anyone to define their success. He reminded them to make a valuable contribution through service to society. Mr. King charged the students and well-wishers to live out the words from Mother Teresa’s poem “Do It Anyway”, “In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
Congratulations and best wishes to all graduates as they soar towards the winds of success.
