Photos from First Lady Arya Ali's post 02/07/2026

July 01st, 2026 marks the start of a brand new chapter in the history of St. Joseph High!

We were elated to have welcomed back to our grounds Her Excellency, Mrs. Arya Ali, First Lady of the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana, and alumna of St. Joseph High School, alongside the Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, with her colleague minister, the Hon. Steven Jacobs-Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport, also an alumnus of St. Joseph High, as they turned the sod for the construction of a brand-new annexe on the school's grounds.

The new annexe forms part of the 'Improving Human Capital through Education Project', funded through the World Bank.
This modern facility will add 10 new classrooms to the school, and is expected to house approximately 250 students, accounting for almost 40% of the school's current population.

In addition, the building will house two new, state-of-the-art Science Laboratories, an AutoCAD Room, an Allied Arts room and two Home Economics Laboratories, in addition to a staff room, sick-bay, counsellors rooms, and janitorial rooms as well. It will also be equipped with modern washroom facilities, all of which will be ADA-Compliant. This is especially meaningful as our school also currently has on our enrollment three SEND students, two of whom are wheelchair users.

We look forward to the completion of this new annexe over the next 10 months, and to all the possibilities it will bring for the future, serving as a physical testament to educational investment and in that of our students, as they transition through our school on the way to becoming productive and patriotic members of society ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค.

๐ŸPROMISES MADE, COMMITTMENTS KEPT! ๐Ÿ€

On the sidelines of the sod-turning ceremony for the New St. Joseph High School Annexe on Wednesday, July 01st, 2026, the Hon. Steven Jacobs-Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport, an alumnus of St. Joseph High School, made a commitment to supply some much needed sporting equipment to our Allied Arts department.

We are pleased to say that within 24 hours, on Thursday, July 2nd 2026, another alumnus of our school, Mr. Shaquawn Gill, delivered the sporting equipment on the Ministry's behalf. This equipment is quite timely, with some already allocated to be put to use from July 3rd, 2026.

We wish to thank the Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport, Hon. Steven Jacobs, and Mr. Shaquawn Gill for their steadfast work in ensuring our students are equally equipped to succeed in their extra-curricular activities, as much as that of their curricular activities.

Please see images below of the equipment being received by our Deputy Principals, Ms. Veronica Narine-Persaud and Ms. Nima Flue-Bess, alongside our Head-of-Department of Allied Arts, Ms. Tonya Richards.
