The first-ever Model CARICOM would have been introduced on July 5th, 2023. This innovation was once just a collective idea of the co-founders of the club, Caysia Cambridge, Ronuko Caulder and Jiali Davis. The plan was to replicate the well-known Model UN but with instead a Caribbean-centric focus. The Model CARICOM's objectives are to improve the policies of CARICOM member states, demonstrate to leaders how these improved policies might be better suited for the region, and shed light on how the region might utilize its many resources to develop a stronger and more prosperous region that would be beneficial to all.
Sadly, as with many innovations, there will be setbacks and not everything will work out as expected. An invited school wouldโve dropped out at a late notice. Nevertheless, Model CARICOM was a success and participants wouldโve had enjoyed participating in the activity and stated that they look forward to participating in another one, thus there are plans to have the next one before the end of the year.
Of the long list of planned participating countries, only 4 were present at the roll call and these are as follows:
โข Bahamas - Shania Gordon and Victoryne Mohabir
โข Haiti - Michael Brutus and Kyra Adams
โข Jamaica - Leshauntรฉ Berkeley and David Sugrim
โข St. Lucia - Akeriah Hinds and Racheal Chesney
Question: How can CARICOM countries enhance the education system and extracurricular organizations to maximize student development while minimizing brain drain?
In response to the question, a representative from each of the four nations described their strategy or the current system used in their country. After that, they had time to prepare a refutation in which they would have discussed the deficiencies of the other countries' proposal and further explained why theirs is the superior one. Minutes before each representative would have cast their votes using a secret ballot, they were granted time to hold an unmoderated caucus.
According to the results of the secret ballot, The Bahamas received two votes, while Haiti and Jamaica tied for three votes. There was seen as no need for a draw breaker since Haiti and Jamaica's approach can succeed jointly, therefore the country representatives would have shaken hands on winning.

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of CARICOM, The Bishops' Highschool's Debate Club presents the very First Model CARICOM.
Our initiative's goal is to strengthen the policies of CARICOM member nations and shed light on ways that the region may capitalize on its numerous resources to grow a stronger and more prosperous region.
Every General Assembly held in this Model CARICOM will have a specific theme, from which questions will be derived, and each country will then develop a plan based on the theme and the questions. The countries will then discuss and debate on these plans and eliminate those that are less successful and unethical; the plans will then show how a problem in the CARICOM region can be resolved.
The list below contains the countries that will be participating:
โข Jamaica
โข Saint Lucia
โข Antigua and Barbuda
โข Haiti
โข Bahamas
โข St. Kitts and Nevis
โข Guyana
โข St. Vincent and the Grenadines
โข Trinidad and Tobago
โข Grenada
There are two representatives from each of these nations as well as one mentor.

We regret to inform you that on June 16th, The Bishops' Highschool lost to North Georgetown in one of the Semi-Finals, thereby eliminating us from the competition. Although the outcome may not have been what we had hoped, a wise man, Glover Teixeira once said, "A true champion is a true champion. They go fight and win or lose, give it their all".
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and honor Michael Brutus (first speaker), Kyra Adams (second speaker) and Leshauntรฉ Berkeley (third speaker), for their courage, drive and eloquence which would have led us this far into the competition. They would have entered the ring, given their all and nevertheless done so despite the many drawbacks incurred.
Our deepest appreciation goes out to everyone who provided assistance and counsel to us throughout the competition. We will use this experience as an opportunity to learn and as a stepping stone to focus on strengthening our weaknesses so that it will be possible for us to win competitions in the years to come.
