We have organized another of our very popular Sunday Charlas (conversations) with folks in Guatemala. So many past students want to hear the latest news about the school and community that we offer the charlas as a way to do just that.

Join us and find out what’s happening in Guatemala, who’s up to what at the school, how the projects we support are faring, When you register you can include a question you’d like us to ask during the charla.

This charla will feature Abelino René Gómez, co-founder and Assistant Coordinator, Rony Osiel Escobar Medina, teacher who has worked the longest at the school, and Evelyn Karina Castillo Vásquez, one of the new teachers, who grew up in Nuevo San José.

Sunday, December 8
12:00 – 1:30PM PST
3:00 – 4:30 EST
Via Zoom

The charla is free to all, with a suggested donation of $35.
Advance registration is required so we can send out the
Zoom link a day or two ahead of the event.

Did you know that La Montaña Fund supports youth in the communities of Fátima and Nuevo San José with scholarships? Becarios / scholars participate in regular workshops and activities to learn more about the real history of Guatemala and their communities, and to learn community organizing strategies. Here are youth from Club Ecológico doing a community clean up and planning to share what they’ve learned about waste management and community resources.

Support the scholarship program and other programs in the community by clicking the DONATE link in our bio.

Make plans to study at La Escuela de La Montaña this year! Link in bio. If you can’t get here, sign up for classes online with our local maestros!

Looking back to the week in July 2022 when La Escuela de la Montaña reopened (at half capacity) after closure due to the global COVID pandemic. Rocael from started as coordinator. We had a traditional Mayan ceremony to honor the renacimiento de la escuela and hiked with Don Jorge to Laguna Chicabal — a spiritual experience not to miss when you’re here!
