There was a time when moving freely felt so challenging because of how self conscious I was and how stuck I felt. My body knew how to protect itself, how to stay small, to hold back & in that way to stay ‘safe’.
Little by little, I discovered that I didn’t have to force myself to being expressive or confident, nor did I have to be any different than what I was.
I simply had to learn to listen.
To notice what was true in the moment. To be honest about what I was feeling.
Meaning also, learning how to stay with the discomfort, with the fear of taking up space, with the fear of meeting what was moving in me below the surface. Learning how to meet all these layers of me with kindness instead of judging myself and trying so hard to “feel good”.
Something really meaningful happens when we stop trying to have things different than what they are, when we stop trying to fix and we just start listening.
The body begins to soften. The breath deepens.Feelings are allowed to be moved, breathed, expressed and therefore find their way to be transformed. It’s a dancing alchemic process.
Vitality and joy begin to emerge - not because you made them happen, but because you made space for them!
That’s what this video of me dancing reminds me of.
Not the dancing itself, but the freedom that grows when we stop fighting ourselves.
Next Saturday I’ll be sharing the practice behind this in my online workshop Embodied Listening – Moving Through the Doorways of Honesty & Kindness, a gentle space to reconnect with your body’s wisdom through conscious movement and intuitive journaling.
