TOEFL IBT TIPS

Writing
The last section of the TOEFL IBT is writing. It is made up of two parts: the integrated and the independent. The integrated part is just like that of the speaking but the difference is that you can see the reading passage while you write your response.
To answer the integrated part like many books advised us, you can write your response as follows; according to the passage ……. But the lecture explains that ………., the reading passage tells us that ……… Similarly, the lecture suggests that ……. and so on. You have 20minutes to answer this part.
Finally the independent part, you are asked to write your opinion about a specific topic. Make sure you essay has and introduction (with the thesis statement), body and a conclusion. You are given 30minutes to answer this part. Always try to budget some time to go back and review your essay.

TOEFL IBT TIPS

Speaking
After the break (10mins), is the speaking section. In this section, you have 2 independent and 4 integrated tasks. Following a short microphone ding, you will be asked a question related to your opinion on a specific topic. You will have 15seconds to prepare your response and 45seconds to talk.
Then, the integrated questions come (speaking 3 and 4); you will read a passage 45seconds and listen to a lecture which supports/contradicts the passage. You have 30seconds to prepare you response and 60seconds to speak. Take some notes while you read and listen because you have only one chance to read and listen.
For the last two integrated speaking (5 and 6), you will listen to a lecture about a particular topic/process; you will have 20seconds to prepare you response and 60seconds to speak. Remember to take note of the key points to help you in your response

TOEFL IBT TIPS

Listening
The listening section has 2-3parts and every part has 1dialog and 2lectures. So, be prepared to have 3dialogs and 6lectures. The below tips can be of help:

- Always note the purpose of the conversation/lecture which is most often stated at the beginning of the conversation/lecture.

- Situate yourself as if you are taking part in the lecture/conversation.

- Don't be distracted by what others are doing beside you.

- Don’t skip a question because you cannot come back to it again.

- Manage your time correctly because you always have 10minutes to answer about 17questions in each part of the section.

NB: When you finish a section, avoid thinking about it again when you are on another. If you do, you mind will be disturbed and can lead you to low score

TOEFL IBT TIPS

Reading
The reading section of TOEFL IBT is not all that difficult but most test takers always have the problem of time management in order to answer the questions effectively. You have 20minutes to answer each passage. Below are some tips for this section:

- The whole passage appears and so does the countdown timer. Don't read the whole passage paragraph by paragraph! That will be nothing but wasting time. Skimmed through the passage reading only the first sentence of each paragraph to know what the passage is all about (don't spend more than 2minutes).

- Jump to the questions and try to find out the answers to each question on the passage at once. Do not take more than a minute to answer each question.

- If a question is difficult, you can skip it and answer the simple ones first because you can come back to it later.

- For vocabulary questions, don't answer them according to their meanings in the dictionary. Use the sentences and words around it to find the meaning.

- For the summary (usually the last question), avoid choosing answers which are too specific. This question always asks for main details.

- Remember to use the review button in order to go back and answer the question you have skipped.

- Never allowed a question answered in TOEFL IBT because there is no penalty if you choose a wrong answer. You have 25% of having the answer correct.

- The passages are almost 10 paragraphs and have advanced vocabulary. So, to take the test, better be prepared to the show both PHYSICALLY and PSYCHOLOGICALLY.
