The elementary school wanted to help those affected by the devastating eruption of Fuego volcano, while also teaching the students the importance of helping others in need. This week we've been collecting donations to take to the communities near the volcano. The kids were excited to bring in items. The preschoolers even wanted to bring in some of their toys to donate to the kids in the communities who lost their toys. Thanks to all those who contributed!

In light of recent events, we held an assembly today to teach the students how to react in the event of an earthquake or a volcano eruption, both common occurrences in Guatemala. We want to ensure our students are as safe as possible in emergency situations, whether they are at school or at home. Our teachers plan to continue practicing in the classrooms and have an earthquake drill later this week.

A todos los padres de familia se les informa que debido a la actividad volcánica y la caída de ceniza, y tomando en cuenta las recomendaciones del ministerio de educación, las clases de hoy, lunes 4 de junio, son suspendidas en el colegio privado. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es lo más importante. Los esperamos el martes en horario normal.

We would like to inform the parents that due to the volcanic activity and the falling ash, and taking into account the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, classes today, Monday, June 4, are cancelled in the private school. The safety of our students is our primary concern. We expect to return to normal hours on Tuesday.

The elementary school recently took a field trip to a local farm. The students got to plant seeds, hold and feed animals, milk a cow, and ride a horse. We had so much fun learning about all the animals on a farm! The kids are already asking when they get to go back again.
