En nuestro último Spirit Day, celebramos el Día de la Tierra con un tema que nos encantó: los biomas 🌎💚. Fue una mañana súper interesante porque nuestros estudiantes investigaron a profundidad y esa investigación se convirtió en disfraces, representaciones y detalles creativos que hicieron que cada grado “trajera a la vida” su biome.

A través de sus presentaciones, pudimos aprender sobre los biomas que existen en Guatemala, los animales que los habitan y datos curiosos que nos recuerdan lo increíble que es nuestro país. Y para cerrar con acción (no solo con palabras), nuestros estudiantes hicieron siembra de semillas florales para crear un área bonita que también apoye a los polinizadores. 🌸🐝

Además, Miss Rita nos dejó un reto usando la app iNaturalist: cada clase ya está registrando observaciones, y el gran cierre del desafío será el 29 de abril. ¡Estamos emocionados por ver todo lo que descubrirán! 📸🦋

At our latest Spirit Day, we celebrated Earth Day with a theme we loved: biomes 🌎💚. It was a truly engaging morning—our students researched deeply, and that learning came to life through costumes, performances, and creative details as each grade represented their biome.

Through their presentations, we learned about the biomes found in Guatemala, the animals that live in them, and fun facts that remind us how incredible our country is. And to turn learning into action, our students also planted wildflower seeds to create a beautiful area that will help support pollinators. 🌸🐝

And there’s more: Miss Rita challenged us with the iNaturalist app. Each class is already logging observations, and the final moment of the challenge will be on April 29. We can’t wait to see what our students discover! 📸🦋

En clase nuestros estudiantes hicieron un reto práctico para entender precisión y exactitud usando dardos 🎯. Descubrieron que puedes lanzar dardos muy juntos (eso es precisión) y aun así estar lejos del centro; o puedes estar cerca del centro algunas veces, pero sin consistencia.

Entre risas, intentos y muchos “¡casi!”, nuestros estudiantes notaron cómo la ciencia y los datos se vuelven más claros cuando los vives: observar, comparar, ajustar la técnica y volver a probar. Porque aprender también es eso: medir, equivocarse, mejorar… y apuntar mejor la próxima vez.

In class, our students did a hands-on challenge to understand precision and accuracy using darts 🎯. They discovered you can throw darts very close together (that’s precision) and still be far from the center; or you can hit near the center sometimes, but not consistently.

Through laughter, practice, and lots of “so close!”, our students saw how science and data make more sense when you experience them: observe, compare, adjust, and try again. Because learning is also about measuring, making mistakes, improving… and aiming better next time.

En clase de arte nuestros estudiantes hicieron un viaje al origen de la creatividad: el arte prehistórico paleolítico (rupestre). 🎨 Exploraron cómo, mucho antes de los museos y los lienzos, las personas ya contaban historias y dejaban huella en las paredes de cuevas usando formas simples, símbolos y pigmentos naturales.

A partir de esa inspiración, recrearon su propia “pintura rupestre”, experimentando con texturas, trazos y composición para comunicar una idea con lo esencial. Fue una actividad perfecta para conectar arte e historia, despertar curiosidad y recordar que el arte siempre ha sido una forma poderosa de decir: “aquí estuvimos, esto vivimos, esto imaginamos.”

In art class, our students took a journey to the origins of creativity: Paleolithic prehistoric (cave) art. 🎨 They explored how, long before museums and canvases, people were already telling stories and leaving their mark on cave walls using simple shapes, symbols, and natural pigments.

Inspired by that world, they created their own “cave paintings,” experimenting with texture, mark-making, and composition to communicate an idea using only the essentials. It was a beautiful way to connect art and history, spark curiosity, and remember that art has always been a powerful way to say: “we were here, this is what we saw, this is what we imagined.”

🌎💚 Hoy, en el Día de la Tierra, recordamos algo que en Antigua Green School vivimos todos los días: somos “green” no por un color, sino por un compromiso. Creemos que aprender también es conectarnos con la tierra que pisamos, el agua que nos sostiene, los árboles que respiran con nosotros y las comunidades que crecen a nuestro alrededor.
Por eso promovemos acciones reales y cotidianas: sembrar, reducir residuos, cuidar nuestros espacios, proteger polinizadores y practicar el respeto como parte de una cultura sostenible. Nuestros estudiantes entienden que los grandes cambios empiezan con decisiones pequeñas, repetidas con intención.

🌎💚 Today, on Earth Day, we’re reminded of something we live every day at Antigua Green School: we are “green” not because of a color, but because of a commitment. We believe learning should connect us to the soil beneath our feet, the water that sustains us, the forests that breathe with us, and the communities that grow around us.
That’s why we focus on real, daily actions: planting, reducing waste, caring for our spaces, protecting pollinators, and practicing respect as part of a sustainable culture. Our students understand that big change begins with small choices, repeated with intention.

El jueves 16 de abril vivimos nuestro Community Meetup #3 y fue de esos espacios que te dejan con más preguntas bonitas y más ganas de cuidar lo que nos rodea. 🐝 El tema del mes: “Abejas sin aguijón: un tesoro nativo”, y nos honró dar la bienvenida a Gabriel Quiñónez, experto local en abejas nativas, quien nos abrió la puerta al fascinante mundo de estos polinizadores esenciales y a su papel silencioso —pero enorme— en nuestros ecosistemas.

Este encuentro también nos recordó nuestro propio camino como pequeño santuario de abejas. Durante la pandemia, una colmena de abejas melíferas apareció inesperadamente en una de nuestras cajas de compost. Lo que empezó como sorpresa se convirtió en inspiración y aprendizaje, hasta llevarnos a adoptar y cuidar algunas colmenas de abejas sin aguijón en los jardines del colegio. Hoy, este santuario en crecimiento refleja nuestro compromiso con una educación que se vive: curiosidad, ciencia en contexto, respeto por lo nativo y cuidado responsable del ambiente. 💚

Gracias a todas las familias y miembros de la comunidad que se sumaron para aprender, conectar y ser parte de la protección de uno de los tesoros más valiosos de nuestra región. ¡Nos vemos en el próximo meetup!

On Thursday, April 16, we hosted Community Meetup #3, and it was one of those gatherings that leaves you with better questions—and a deeper desire to protect what surrounds us. 🐝 This month’s theme was “Stingless Bees: A Native Treasure,” and we were honored to welcome Gabriel Quiñónez, a local expert in native bees, who guided us into the fascinating world of these essential pollinators and their quiet—but powerful—role in our ecosystems.

This meetup also reminded us of our own journey as a small bee sanctuary. During the COVID pandemic, a honeybee hive unexpectedly settled in one of our compost boxes. What began as a surprise soon became inspiration, opening the door to deeper learning and conscious care—eventually leading us to adopt and care for stingless bee hives in our school gardens. Today, our growing sanctuary reflects what we believe in: curiosity, science in context, respect for native biodiversity, and responsible environmental stewardship. 💚

Thank you to all the families and community members who joined us to learn, connect, and help protect one of our region’s most valuable native treasures. See you at the next meetup!

En Antigua Green School creemos que la inclusión no se celebra solo un día: se construye todos los días, con lo que enseñamos, con cómo convivimos y con cómo aprendemos a mirar al otro con respeto y empatía.
La semana pasada conmemoramos el Día del Autismo con pláticas y espacios de reflexión gracias a miembros de nuestra comunidad: madres y padres comprometidos que luchan día a día por abrir caminos, generar comprensión y recordarnos que cada persona percibe, siente y se comunica de maneras distintas.

Escuchar estas experiencias de cerca nos ayuda a formar estudiantes más conscientes, capaces de incluir, de acompañar y de crear un entorno donde todos puedan pertenecer. Gracias por compartir su voz, su tiempo y su corazón. 🌈

Nuestros Phoenix ya tienen su chumpa: ese símbolo que los distingue como los seniors del colegio y que, de alguna forma, también marca un “aquí estoy” en el último tramo de esta aventura. 💚🔥

Cada vez que se la ponen, no es solo un uniforme: es la suma de amistades que se hicieron hogar, de retos que los hicieron crecer, de risas que se quedarán para siempre y de recuerdos que siguen reuniendo con intensidad, alegría y compañerismo. Hoy celebramos esta etapa que se vive distinto: con más conciencia, más gratitud y más ganas de aprovechar cada momento.

Our Phoenix students now have their jacket—the symbol that sets them apart as the school’s seniors, and in many ways, marks a powerful “this is our moment” as they enter the final stretch of this journey. 💚🔥

Every time they wear it, it’s more than a uniform: it’s the sum of friendships that became family, challenges that shaped them, laughter that will last forever, and memories they’re still creating with intensity, joy, and true companionship. Today we celebrate a season that feels different—more intentional, more grateful, and more alive.

Phoenix, we’re so proud of you. The best chapters are still being written. ✨

En nuestra clase de arte, los estudiantes de Earth exploraron el color con témperas, poniendo en primer plano lo que más nos encanta: creatividad con técnica. 🎨✨ Entre mezclas, pinceladas y mucha concentración, aprendieron a controlar el agua y la cantidad de pintura, crear tonos nuevos y dar vida a sus ideas con intención y detalle.

Estos momentos son más que “pintar”: fortalecen la motricidad fina, la paciencia, la confianza para experimentar y la capacidad de expresarse con libertad. Y lo más bonito… ver cómo cada obra refleja una personalidad distinta y una imaginación enorme. 💚

In art class, our Earth students explored color using tempera paint, bringing to life what we love most: creativity with technique. 🎨✨ Through mixing, brushwork, and focused practice, they learned how to control water and paint, create new shades, and turn their ideas into intentional, detailed artwork.

These moments are more than “painting”—they strengthen fine motor skills, patience, confidence to experiment, and the freedom to express themselves. And the best part… seeing how every piece reflects a unique personality and a big imagination. 💚

En nuestro PD de marzo, reservamos el día para el desarrollo profesional de nuestro staff docente… y también para su desarrollo integral. 💚 Por eso salimos a vivir un pedacito de historia en Casa Popenoe, donde recibimos un tour maravilloso e informativo gracias a la UFM.

Casa Popenoe es la primera casa restaurada al estilo colonial de Antigua Guatemala, y su influencia ha trascendido la ciudad y sus alrededores. Lo más fascinante es cómo, dentro de un solo lugar, se entrecruzan historias que explican quiénes somos: los traslados de la capital, el impacto de los terremotos en la arquitectura, la mirada del extranjero en la puesta en valor del patrimonio cultural y la visión de una pareja que emprendió una restauración titánica.

Creemos profundamente que cuando nuestros maestros aprenden, se inspiran y se conectan con el contexto, eso se transforma en mejores experiencias para los estudiantes: más significado, más cultura, más curiosidad y una enseñanza que se siente viva. 🏛️✨

During our March PD Day, we set aside time for our teachers’ professional growth… and their whole-person development as well. 💚 That’s why we experienced a piece of local history at Casa Popenoe, with a wonderful and insightful tour—thank you to UFM for making it possible.

Casa Popenoe is the first restored colonial-style home in Antigua Guatemala, and its influence has reached far beyond the city. What makes it truly powerful is how many stories intersect in one place: the relocation of Guatemala’s capital, the impact of earthquakes on architecture, the outsider’s role in valuing cultural heritage, and the vision of a couple who took on a monumental restoration.

We strongly believe that when teachers keep learning, feeling inspired, and connecting with context, it becomes better learning for students—more meaning, more culture, more curiosity, and teaching that feels truly alive. 🏛️✨

Casa Popenoe UFM

Vivimos un encuentro muy especial: nuestro equipo de volleyball femenino recibió en la cancha al Club Paraíso de Costa Rica para un match internacional que nos dejó muchísimo más que un marcador. 🏐

Gracias, Club Paraíso, por la visita y por compartir su energía y pasión por el deporte. Estos intercambios enriquecen el aprendizaje de nuestras niñas porque ponen en práctica disciplina, trabajo en equipo, comunicación, manejo de emociones, resiliencia y, sobre todo, respeto por el rival. Más que un partido que se gana o se pierde, fue una oportunidad para crecer, conectar y celebrar lo que el deporte construye en cada una.

También queremos agradecer a nuestra comunidad y a los padres de familia que llegaron a apoyar con tanto entusiasmo—su presencia se siente y hace la diferencia. Esperamos que este no sea el primer ni el último encuentro en la cancha, Club Paraíso. ¡Que vengan muchos más eventos como este en el futuro!

We shared a truly special moment: our girls’ volleyball team welcomed Club Paraíso from Costa Rica for an international match that gave us so much more than a final score. 🏐

Thank you, Club Paraíso, for your visit and for sharing your energy and love for the game. Exchanges like these enrich our students’ growth beyond sports—they strengthen discipline, teamwork, communication, emotional management, resilience, and above all, respect for opponents. More than a win or a loss, it was a chance to grow, connect, and celebrate what sports build within each player.

A heartfelt thank you as well to our community and the families who showed up with so much enthusiasm—your support truly makes a difference. We hope this won’t be the first or the last time we meet on the court, Club Paraíso. Here’s to many more events like this in the future!
