🌿 Νέα επιτυχία για το Εργαστήριο Αρχαιομετρίας & Φυσικοχημικών Μετρήσεων του Ε.Κ. «Αθηνά»!

Η νέα μας εργασία δημοσιεύθηκε στο Journal of Environmental Management (Elsevier), ένα Q1 περιοδικό με Impact Factor 9.2.

Στη μελέτη αξιολογούμε, σε πιλοτική κλίμακα 30 L, τη χρήση της Chlorella vulgaris για την απομάκρυνση βαρέων μετάλλων από το νερό, προχωρώντας ένα βήμα παραπέρα: εξετάζουμε επίσης την ανάκτηση των μετάλλων και την αναγέννηση της μικροφυκικής βιομάζας, στο πλαίσιο μιας πιο κυκλικής και βιώσιμης προσέγγισης βιοαποκατάστασης. 🌱♻️

new pilots to grow the community.

is delighted to announce that the first 12 (of 20) projects from the Cascading Grants 2nd Call "Engagement and Collaboration" have started.

The Call invited Cultural Heritage institutions ( ) to raise awareness of the Cultural Heritage Cloud, grow its community, and support skills development and capacity building, with a focus on small and medium-sized institutions.

The 12 projects span a wide geography, from Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, Poland and the Western Balkans to Northern and Eastern Europe, plus several pan-European initiatives. They address an equally wide range of communities: religious heritage, open-air museums, photographic archives, computer games heritage, folk music and dance, libraries, and children-focused education.

ARTEMIS reaches Milestone 7: the pilots have been selected and the initial design is completed.

A key transition for the project, from technical development to real-world cultural heritage applications.

The ARTEMIS pilots are the experimentation framework of the project: a diverse set of use cases designed to test how the Reactive Heritage Digital Twin can support conservation, monitoring, simulation, interpretation and decision-making across different cultural heritage contexts.

The pilot portfolio is organised across three scales.

1. Small-scale pilots

Focused use cases at the level of individual assets, specific collections or well-defined environments. They include 3D virtual reassembly, immersive monitoring, smart display cases, collaborative workspaces and condition assessment.

2. Medium-scale pilots

Monuments, historic buildings and extended structural elements. Climate and condition monitoring, structural analysis, reconstruction of past displays, environmental storytelling and performance simulation are all part of the scope.

3. Large-scale pilots

Cities, landscapes and territorial systems. From crowd movement simulation in historic city centres to metadata management for vulnerable buildings, country-scale environmental threat warning, military architecture simulation, forest management and climate change scenarios for historic settlements.

The first dedicated pilot page is now online: Pilot 20, Crowd movement simulation in historic city centres, based on a high-fidelity 3D digital replica of the Old Town of Xanthi and combining multi-agent simulation, VR-based interaction and scenario-based analysis to support decision-making for high-density events in cultural heritage settings.

Dedicated pages for the other pilots will be released over the coming weeks.

What should a European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage actually be? We asked the networks and umbrella organisations that represent the sector.

In a recent online focus group, brought together APEF, ARIADNE, E.C.C.O., ICOM/AVICOM, ICOM Portugal, Michael Culture Association and NEMO to discuss what would make the Cultural Heritage Cloud ( ) genuinely useful, and what could hold it back.

Their message was clear: the Cloud should not be one more platform to adopt. It should be an invisible layer that makes existing work easier, safer and more powerful.
A few of the things they told us matter most:

- Deliver visible added value from day one. The goal is better use of data, not more data.

- Solve interoperability by design, with real compatibility with the systems and aggregators already in use.

- Build trust through transparent governance and clear data quality and validation.

- Guarantee long-term storage, financial sustainability and environmental responsibility.

- Put usability and inclusiveness first, so smaller and less digitally advanced institutions are not left behind.

The takeaway for everyone building the Cloud: it will succeed not because it exists, but because it integrates seamlessly into how people already work, reduces complexity instead of adding to it, and earns trust from the start.
Thank you to every network and participant who shared their time and expertise. We are building the Cloud with the community, not just for it.

Φοιτητές του ARCHMAT στο Ε.Κ. Αθηνά Ξάνθης: Γνωρίζοντας τις Μεθόδους Αποκάλυψης των Μυστικών του Παρελθόντος

Μεταπτυχιακοί φοιτητές του Erasmus Mundus Μεταπτυχιακού Προγράμματος στην Επιστήμη Αρχαιολογικών Υλικών ARCHMAT επισκέφθηκαν τις εγκαταστάσεις του Ε.Κ. Αθηνά στην Ξάνθη και γνώρισαν από κοντά τις δραστηριότητες μας στους τομείς της Αρχαιομετρίας, της Αρχαιολογίας και της Ψηφιοποίησης Πολιτιστικών Αντικειμένων.

Το διεθνές πρόγραμμα ARCHMAT υλοποιείται από μια κορυφαία κοινοπραξία τριών ευρωπαϊκών πανεπιστημίων: το Πανεπιστήμιο της Évora (UEVORA), το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης (AUTH) και το Πανεπιστήμιο Sapienza της Ρώμης.

Οι φοιτητές, οι οποίοι προέρχονται από περισσότερες από 20 χώρες, είχαν την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν προηγμένο επιστημονικό εξοπλισμό και τεχνικές που χρησιμοποιούνται στην αρχαιομετρική έρευνα από το Εργαστήριο Αρχαιομετρίας και Φυσικοχημικών Μετρήσεων, καθώς και σύγχρονες μεθοδολογίες που συμβάλλουν στην απάντηση βασικών αρχαιολογικών ερωτημάτων, όπως το «Πού», «Πότε» και «Πώς».

Τους φοιτητές συνόδευσαν η κα Ελένη Παυλίδου, Καθηγήτρια του Τμήματος Φυσικής του ΑΠΘ και Διευθύντρια του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος για το ΑΠΘ, καθώς και ο Δρ Ιωάννης Κόζαρης, Συντονιστής του Εκπαιδευτικού Προγράμματος για το ΑΠΘ.

The full programme and trainers of the ARTEMIS Summer School 2026 are now online.

From 16 to 18 June at Hof University, twenty cultural heritage professionals will take part in three intensive days dedicated to the Reactive Heritage Digital Twin.

The programme runs across three themes: Vision and Strategy on Day 1, Building the Digital Twin on Day 2, and Activating the Reactive System on Day 3. Lectures and workshops cover 3D documentation, semantic modelling, knowledge graphs, AR/VR, simulation and sensor integration.

Thirteen trainers from across European research institutions will guide the sessions.
