As a Greek teacher, I truly believe that language is all about the beautiful, unpredictable chaos of human connection, far more than just grammar rules.

When my brain short-circuited between four different languages, it reminded me once again how deeply this journey transforms us.

These spontaneous mix-ups are actually our most honest moments. They are the exact spots where cultures meet inside our heads, showing us just how connected we all really are.

That brief conversation left me with such a sweet, authentic feeling. The kind that reminds you why you fall in love with people and travel in the first place.

A name born in ancient Greece, carrying the strength of the verb aléxo (to protect, to hold space for another) and anēr (mankind). It translates to "the defender of humans" or "she who shelters souls".

Long before us, this name carried a quiet strength through history, a symbol of resilience and vision. Today, it aligns with a celebration of light and faith.

To me, my name is just a quiet reminder to always be a safe space for the people I love, to lead with kindness, stand by them, and keep my energy warm.

"I want to speak perfect Greek before I start talking."
I hear this a lot from my students. I get where it comes from . You want to build your vocabulary and get a solid grip on the grammar.
But have you ever thought that behind this desire for perfection, something else is hiding?
Fear. Fear of making mistakes. And most importantly, fear of exposing yourself to something you're not used to.

Think about how we act in general. Why do we hesitate?
Because a quiet voice inside our heads says, I'm not good enough. People will judge me. But we rarely stop to realize that we are our own harshest critics.

Besides, what is "perfect" anyway? Who decides that?
I love Aristotle's perspective here: for him, perfection was about fulfilling your potential. He never spoke about being flawless.
And honestly, being flawless is impossible in anything we do, not just language learning.

Maybe that's how we should view speaking a language.
You only become a better speaker by actually speaking, and mistakes are an essential part of that growth.
If you're waiting until your Greek is perfect before you open your mouth, you might be waiting for the wrong kind of perfection.
