🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

Another exciting addition to our speaker lineup!
We are pleased to welcome Prof. Yiannis Pontikes who will join us at the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027.

Yiannis Pontikes is a BOF-ZAP Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at KU Leuven, Belgium. He leads the Sustainable Resources for Engineered Materials (SREMat) research group, comprising approximately 10 postgraduate researchers. SREMat develops sustainable processes for sustainable materials, with particular expertise in the valorisation of industrial residues into cementitious binders and inorganic polymers (geopolymers), covering the entire innovation chain from binder synthesis to full-scale prototype development. Since 2016, Yiannis has served as project leader, promoter, or co-promoter in more than 50 research projects, representing a combined budget of approximately €20 million. He is a member of the KU Leuven Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM² KU Leuven) and one of the three directors of the Center for Resource Recovery and Recycling (CR3) in the United States. In close collaboration with leading mining and metallurgical companies, he coordinates the SREMat Innovation Society, a strategic industry–academia partnership that accelerates research, development, and implementation of technologies for the valorisation of industrial residues.

🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

Our outstanding lineup of invited speakers continues to grow!
We are pleased to welcome Prof. Surendra Shah who will join us at the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027.

Dr. Surendra Shah is distinguished for his seminal research on synthesizing engineering mechanics and material science. Professor Shah has made unique, original and extensive contributions to better understand and define properties of cement-based materials and developing new advanced materials which has become a world standard in these fields. He is responsible for developing high performance concrete, fibre reinforced concrete, self-consolidating concrete, shrinkage reducing admixtures, carbon nano-tube reinforced cement based composites and extrusion processing of concrete. These have revolutionized the way modern concretes are used worldwide. Dr. Shah has been recognized with many awards and honors, notably he is a member of the National Academy of Inventors, National Academy of Engineering, Academy of Athens, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Indian Academy of Engineering, German Academy of Engineering and the Russian Academy of Engineering. He is Walter P Murphy Emeritus Professor at Northwestern University, where he was the director of pioneering NSF funded Science and technology Centre on Advanced Cement based Materials.

🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

We are thrilled to unveil the next distinguished invited speaker for the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027: Prof. Rafat Siddique!

Rafat Siddique is Senior Professor of Civil Engineering & Dean Sustainability at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed University), India. He is amongst 0.014% of academics as per Stanford University having total citations of 33000+ having H Index of 95 in the area of sustainable construction materials.
He is Editor of Journal Results in Engineering (Elsevier), Journal of Construction and Building Materials (Elsevier) (2016-25), Journal of Construction and Building Materials (Elsevier), Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering (ASCE), Journal of Building Engineering (Elsevier), and European Journal of Environmental and Civil Engineering (Taylor & Francis), and Editorial Board Members of several Q1 Journals.
His research interests are Fiber Reinforced Concrete; High Volume Fly Ash Concrete; Use of Industrial By- Products in Cement-Based Materials; Self-Compacting Concrete; Properties of Concrete at Elevated Temperatures; Microbial Concrete; Characterization of Leachate from Concrete made with Waste Materials.
He has been Invited/Visiting Professor to number of universities in USA, Europe, UK, China, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. He has held several executive positions at Thapar Institute. Prominent amongst them are; Dean, Research and Development (2018-2023); Dean of Faculty Affairs (2010-2014); Head of Department of Civil Engineering (2003-06).

🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

Our speaker series continues, and we're excited to welcome another outstanding guest, Dr Wolfram Schmidt, to the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027.

Wolfram Schmidt works at in the Department “Safety of Structures” at the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), where he coordinates the rheology and admixtures laboratory with a research focus on particle-polymer-fluid interactions and innovative organic and mineral cement and concrete constituents. Furthermore, he is Secretary of the German Rheological Society, and Chairman of the Development Advisory Committee of RILEM. He is founder of the Pan-African cement round robin (PACE-PTS), initiator of the conference series “Advances in Cement and Concrete Technology in Africa” (ACCTA) and ISEE-Africa (Innovation, Science, Engineering, Education), and co-host of the RILEM Week 2026. A strong research focus is put on developing technologies to derive sustainable organic and mineral binder components from renewable and bio-based resources in circular and cascading process and value chains.

🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

We are delighted to introduce our next invited speaker, Dr Lily Poulikakos, who will be joining us at the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027.

Lily Poulikakos received her B.S in architectural engineering from the university of Colorado, Boulder USA, M.S. in civil engineering from university of Illinois USA and PhD in civil engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2001 to 2023, she worked at Empa, the Swiss federal laboratories for materials science and technology, where she held the position of senior scientist. Currently she is active as an expert on National and European projects. Her expertise is on using multi-scale characterization methods to study innovative bituminous materials chemically and mechanically with a focus on low noise pavements and the use of waste and marginal materials for roads. She has been a leading member of Rilem as former deputy chair of the technical committee TC-231 NBM on nano bituminous materials and TC-252 CMB chemo mechanical characterization of bituminous materials and chair of TC-279 WMR on waste and marginal materials for roads. Dr. Poulikakos is the author of over 130 publications in international peer refereed journals. Since 2018 she has been an editor of Elsevier journal Construction and Building Materials CBM.

🎤 Meet Our Invited Speakers – RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027

We are delighted to introduce our next invited speaker, Mr. Andreas Kameris, who will be joining us at the RILEM Spring Convention & Conference 2027.

Andreas Kameris is the Technical Director of Kameris Group, a Cyprus-based company specializing in demolition, asbestos removal, construction and demolition waste management, and the resale of reclaimed materials. He holds degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Nicosia and Mechanical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, USA, as well as a Master’s degree in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, UK. At Kameris Group, he has led the upgrade of operational procedures and contributed to the implementation and certification of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 systems, with a focus on efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility. He is a Board Member of the Cyprus Safety and Health Association, an Associate Member of the Institute of Demolition Engineers, and an Associate Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers.
