Good news! The submission deadline for the ManagiDiTH Master Programme Universities Conference 2026 – Digital Transformation in Health has been extended to:⏳ 29 July 2026

Researchers, health professionals, students, public administrators, startups, SMEs and digital health innovators are invited to submit their work and contribute to the discussion on the future of digital health.

The AUTH Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Lab participated in the Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) 2026 conference with several contributions. Postdoctoral Research Associate Antonios Billis presented a poster on a mHealth application, a digital solution designed to support the prevention and management of frailty in older pre-frail adults . Postdoctoral Research Associate Emmanouil Rigas presented research on evaluating and adapting quality criteria for digital health applications in frailty and dementia care (https://doi.org/10.3233/SHTI260525) and, together with Dr. Billis, organized a workshop on the use of online marketplaces for digital health interventions supporting older adults.

These contributions reflect the ongoing research activities of the COMFORTage project, which aims to advance digital solutions for healthy ageing and independent living.

Η Υπ. Διδακτόρισσα και Ερευνητική Συνεργάτιδα του AUTH Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Lab, Despoina Mantziari παρουσίασε στο 2ο Πανελλήνιο Συνέδριο Γηριατρικής «Υγιής Γήρανση και Μακροζωία» την εκπαιδευτική παρέμβαση για την ενίσχυση της ψηφιακής και υγειονομικής εγγραμματοσύνης ατόμων μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας, η οποία αναπτύχθηκε αξιοποιώντας τη μεθοδολογία των Ζωντανών Εργαστηρίων (Living Labs).

Η παρέμβαση υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του ευρωπαϊκού έργου COMFORTage - Horizon EU Project, με στόχο την ενδυνάμωση των ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων των ατόμων μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας.

Η εκπαιδευτική παρέμβαση διακρίθηκε με βραβείο στο συνέδριο, αναδεικνύοντας την ερευνητική της αξία.

TWIN-X Project Launches to Advance Patient-Centred Medicine through Trustworthy Digital Twins

We are excited to announce the launch of TWIN-X, a new Horizon Europe project dedicated to developing trustworthy, explainable digital twins for patient-centred medicine.

Coordinated by TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar, the four-year project brings together 19 partners from 13 European countries and has received approximately €15 million in EU funding.

TWIN-X will use the power of artificial intelligence to combine different types of patient data, including medical imaging, clinical information, and laboratory results, with the aim of creating digital twins that can support more accurate diagnosis and the virtual testing of treatment options.

A key focus of the project is explainability and trustworthiness. Instead of relying on “black box” AI, TWIN-X will develop transparent models that help healthcare professionals understand how diagnoses and treatment recommendations are generated.

By advancing responsible digital twin technologies in oncology and cardiology, TWIN-X aims to strengthen Europe’s digital health ecosystem and support the safe integration of AI into clinical practice.

Multimodal Digital TWINs with Generative AI for eXplainable Precision Medicine

The annual face-to-face meeting of the City Science Initiative (CSI) network took place in Thessaloniki on Friday, 22 May 2026. The meeting was organised by the AUTH Medical Physics & Digital Innovation Lab and hosted at the premises of the Chamber of Small and Medium-sized Industries of Thessaloniki, while part of the activities took place in the framework of the AIF.

Through iMedPhys, AUTH has participated in the CSI network since 2018 and, in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, leads the thematic area “Thessaloniki: Health & Wellbeing”. The meeting brought together representatives from the European Commission, European cities, academic institutions, policy bodies and organisations working on smart cities, digital transformation, urban resilience, sustainable development, health and wellbeing, green cities and circular economy. A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of the Fourth CSI Report, “Blueprints for Messy Cities”, which framed the discussion around current urban & societal challenges and future directions for City Science.

Participants engaged in open dialogue, exchanged experiences, identified shared challenges faced by European cities and explored new opportunities for collaboration.

The programme also included a Thinking Lunch, which has become an established activity of the CSI network, during which participants worked in thematic tables to discuss key City Science challenges and propose next steps.

The outcomes of these discussions are expected to feed into the next CSI report and support the development of future synergies and European collaborative initiatives.
