“YOUth lead the future!” – Project Completion

We are excited to share the successful closure of our Erasmus+ KA210 project “YOUth lead the future!” (2023-3-EL02-KA210-YOU-000176965) — a transnational initiative focused on strengthening youth participation, civic engagement, and social inclusion, especially for young people with fewer opportunities.

The project brought together partners from four countries — EN.O Greece (Coordinator), FreeMinds in Action (Italy), Asociația HESSA (Romania), and Asociación de cooperación al desarrollo ABARKA (Spain), and— with a shared mission to empower young people and youth workers with innovative tools for democratic participation.

🎯 Our Key Outcome: The Learning Guide
Throughout the project, we co-developed a comprehensive Learning Guide for Civic Engagement and Youth Participation — a modular, open-access educational tool for youth workers, educators, trainers, and NGOs. The guide was piloted, tested, and improved through international and local activities and is now available for free use, adaptation, and dissemination.

📘 The Learning Guide includes:
• 12 modules covering civic education, youth empowerment, digital advocacy, intercultural dialogue, and more
• Non-formal methods and practical exercises
• Tips for implementation at local, national, and European levels
• A structure adaptable for both online and in-person youth work activities

🌍 The guide was presented at major events including the DARE Network’s General Assembly & TrendsLab (Berlin) and the Dialogue of Emerging Leaders Conference (Rabat), reaching stakeholders from across Europe and the Mediterranean.

🔗 You can access the Learning Guide via scanning the QR code of the photo

It is also available in SALTO Toolbox and in the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform.

🧠 This is not the end!
We plan to continue building on the project's outcomes, expand the reach of the guide, and engage in future initiatives that respond to the challenges and needs we explored during this journey.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all participants, partners, trainers, and supporters who made this project possible.

🌊💚 YOUNG VOICES FOR LAKES! 💚🌊

From November 5-12, 36 young people from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, France, and Türkiye organized activities as part of the project titled "KEEP THE LAKE, BEFORE IT IS TO LATE!"

Eğirdir Lake, Turkey's second-largest freshwater lake, is not only a natural drinking water basin but also an internationally significant wetland due to its biological diversity. While there are 514 different bird species in Europe and 454 in Turkey, 225 of the bird species found in Turkey inhabit Eğirdir Lake and its surroundings.

This youth project aimed to draw international attention to the problems of Eğirdir Lake and potential solutions. Throughout the week, participants engaged in workshops where they learned about ecology and ecological issues in depth. They also acquired new knowledge and skills to adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

On November 10, the young participants visited Eğirdir district and Eğirdir Lake as part of non-formal learning activities focused on environmental protection. They explored the district’s historical and touristic sites and carried out a clean-up activity along the shores of Eğirdir Lake, raising awareness about the importance of preserving the lake’s future.

One of the most significant activities of the project took place at the Eğirdir Municipality Meeting Hall. Here, participants listened to presentations about the municipality's efforts to protect the lake and its surroundings. They also learned about the Eğirdir Lake Protection Action Plan, which is jointly carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Eğirdir Municipality. Additionally, the municipality shared its future plans for the preservation of Eğirdir Lake in great detail. The young participants later provided suggestions and feedback on what can be done to protect the lake further.

During the project, participants also organized cultural nights, where they introduced their own cultures and shared information about the state and challenges of lakes in their respective countries.

At the end of the project, a booklet was published, featuring information on current issues affecting lakes, policies implemented for lake conservation, and international agreements related to lake protection. You can access the booklet through the following link and review the project outcomes:

🌍 Raising Awareness on Desertification: Youth Exchange in Konya, Türkiye 🌿

From October 16 to 24, a vibrant Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project took place in 🇹🇷 Konya, Türkiye, where 36 young people from 🇹🇷 Türkiye, 🇷🇴 Romania, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇬🇷 Greece, 🇪🇸 Spain & 🇧🇬 Bulgaria came together. The project, titled "Start Your Action to Stop Desertification", was all about raising awareness on one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time: desertification.

🌱 What’s the Problem?
As global population growth pushes the demand for food, water, and housing, intensive agriculture, urbanization, and industrialization have led to the decline of natural resources in vulnerable regions. This is accelerating the spread of desertification, and with it, the depletion of water sources and loss of biodiversity. To make matters worse, climate change is further accelerating the destruction of valuable soil.

But there’s hope! Through this project, participants took action to raise awareness and find sustainable solutions to combat desertification.

✨ Project Highlights:

🌍 Engaging group activities using non-formal learning methods to tackle ecological issues.
🚜 Visits to Konya Sugar Factory, where participants explored innovative irrigation and agriculture techniques.
🏜️ Exploring Karapınar, one of the most desertified areas in Turkey, to understand local policies and efforts to combat desertification.
📣 Public event in Konya to spread the message about the urgent need for action on desertification.

🌱 Goals of the Project:
-Increased public awareness about desertification in Konya.
-Supported policies and strategies to fight desertification across Europe and Türkiye.
-Promoted international cooperation to protect our planet.
-Empowered youth to take action and strengthen civil society initiatives.
-Increased regional awareness of the Erasmus+ program and created new opportunities for youth projects.

📽️ Watch our Flashmob and see how participants raised their voices for the planet: https://youtu.be/DAE9Cf1_530?feature=shared

🌍 Get Inspired, Take Action! 🌿 Together, we can make a difference in the fight against desertification. 🌱

Natural Disasters Appear When the Measures Disappear!

Within the scope of the European Union Erasmus+ Program, which is implemented in Türkiye by the Turkish National Agency, a total of 36 young people from Turkey, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Romania came together in Kastamonu between October 8–15 for a youth mobility project.

The project goals:

● To more effectively explain the concept of natural disasters to both the target audience and the general public,

● To raise awareness about climate change-induced disasters and inform people about what may await us in the future,

● To enhance youth knowledge, skills, and motivation in dealing with disasters,

● To promote the work of institutions working in the field of disaster management and encourage civil society organizations to take more responsibility in this area,

● To explain the concepts of ecology, ecological balance, and factors that disturb this balance,

● To initiate discussions on policies implemented by different countries against natural disasters,

● To increase regional awareness of the Erasmus+ program,

● To expand the number of Erasmus+ beneficiaries in the region,

● To promote Kastamonu’s touristic beauty on an international level.

As part of the project, the participants first took part in ice-breaking and introduction activities to get to know one another. They later visited AFAD Kastamonu (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), where they received information about AFAD’s operations, technological capacity, and institutional structure. They learned in detail about TAMP (Turkey Disaster Response Plan) and IRAP (Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan).

The participants also took part in AFAD-led disaster preparedness activities, including basic disaster training, fire extinguishing drills, and tent installation workshops, gaining hands-on experience with AFAD’s resources and technologies.

As part of the project activities, Murat Yiğit, the president of Kuzey Search and Rescue Association, gave a session on the roles and potential contributions of NGOs in disaster management. Representatives from Kastamonu Municipality, Fatih Yapıcıoğlu and Metin Abdurrezzak, also provided in-depth information on the municipality's emergency response efforts and search and rescue teams.

Young participants worked together to develop future strategies and action plans to ensure more young people are informed and involved in volunteer-based disaster response efforts.

Throughout the project, participants also hosted cultural nights, where they introduced their cultures. The participants had the chance to visit various locations in Kastamonu, getting to know the city and country better.
