The Silk Roads have existed for thousands of years, passing through many different empires, kingdoms, and societies throughout history, transporting cultures, religions, languages, and material goods across Europe, Asia, and Africa uniting them with a common thread of cultural heritage and pluralistic identities.

There are various historical places to visit along the Silk Road such as Nara Gate in Japan, Xi'an Tower in China, Samarkand Square in Uzbekistan, Istanbul Crossroads in present-day Turkey, and Venice Piazza in Italy. Each sentinel tells a different part of the story of the Silk Road. These stories include the complicated interplay of trade and politics, diplomacy and warfare, religion, and intellectual exchange.

“Sacred places and religious tourism on the Silk Routes” will be discussed in the International Conference on Silk Road Sustainable Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage that will be held online in Collaboration with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Join us and submit your abstract before the deadline on the 20th of October 2021, and get the chance to publish your research in the ASTI, IEREK's interdisciplinary book series, by Springer, now indexed in Scopus!

The term does not end at monuments and collections of objects. It also includes traditions or living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants, such as oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe or the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 is the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills – as well as the instruments, objects, artifacts and cultural spaces associated with it – that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage. This intangible cultural heritage, transmitted from generation to generation, is constantly recreated by communities and groups in response to their environment, their interaction with nature and their history, and provides them with a sense of identity and continuity, thus promoting respect for cultural diversity and human creativity.

“Intangible Cultural Heritage Along the Silk Roads” is one of the main topics that will be discussed at the international conference on Silk Road Sustainable Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage (SRSTDCH).

and cultural exchange both influenced cultural development along the continental Silk Road during the late Holocene, but climate change and its influence on nomadic civilizations during that time has yet to be systematically assessed. Spanning Eurasia, the Silk Road was not only an important trade passageway linking Eastern Asia and Europe in historical times but also a channel for technical, intellectual, and cultural exchange across Asia and Europe, and a link between Eastern and Western civilizations.

The international conference on Silk Road Sustainable Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage (SRSTDCH) will discuss the “Challenges of Climate Change in Silk Road” to bring up some of today’s most pressing issues and discuss current research and advancements in the field, taking into account Silk Road development for the post-COVID era.

Join us and submit your abstract before the deadline and get the chance to publish your paper in the Scopus-indexed ASTI book series by Springer.
