Members of the foodigIT team participated in the AI for Science European Summer School (16–17 July) at the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
Organised by the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies with the support of Google DeepMind, the event brought together researchers and AI experts from across Europe to discuss the latest advances in artificial intelligence for scientific discovery.
Participating in events like this helps our team stay up to date with emerging AI developments and strengthen the knowledge and collaborations that support foodigIT's mission in computational food science and digital transformation.

Meet Anastasia Kyriakoudi, team member of the foodigIT project.
Anastasia is a researcher in the fields of food chemistry, natural bioactive compounds, and sustainable food processing. She holds a PhD in Food Chemistry and Technology and has international research experience, including postdoctoral studies at the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA). Through her work on green extraction technologies, bioactive food ingredients, advanced analytical techniques, and sustainable food innovation, she contributes her expertise to foodigIT's interdisciplinary research activities.

foodigIT recently participated in an ATE Cluster Meeting, hosted by Dryfo - Menexopoulos Bros SA, where Dr. József Baranyi presented practical digital tools that support food businesses in making safer, smarter, and more evidence-based decisions.

Our team member Dr. Agapi Doulgeraki recently visited Shandong Agricultural University (SDAU) and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), where she presented foodigIT to academic staff, researchers, and students.
The visits are part of foodigIT's ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration and promote knowledge exchange in food science, digital innovation, and the future of sustainable agri-food systems.

The foodigIT team had the opportunity to participate in two scientific events held in Thessaloniki: the 30th edition of RECOMB, one of the world's leading conferences in bioinformatics and computational biology, and HBioinfo17, organized by the Hellenic Bioinformatics.
Beyond attending inspiring talks and discussions, we were delighted to present our poster: "Describing a Network-Based Organization of Microbiomes Across Food-Related Ecosystems".
The events offered valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, connect with researchers from Greece and abroad, and explore new perspectives at the intersection of computational biology, microbiome science, and food systems research.

Maria is a researcher in the fields of molecular biology, microbiome science, and computational biology. She holds an MSc in Applied Bioinformatics and Data Analysis and has research experience at internationally recognised institutions, including European Molecular Biology Laboratory and Emory University. Through her work in bioinformatics, microbiome research, and computational modelling, she contributes her expertise to foodigIT’s interdisciplinary research activities.
