The International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP), in conjunction with the Department of Geology, University of Patras, is pleased to announce the 16th ICCP Course: Organic Petrology and Environmental Applications, to be held in Patras, Greece between 23-27th June 2025.

The course is not exclusively targeting organic petrologists but also those, who rather deal with petrographic data as well as environmental proxies.

Instructors will be Dr. George Siavalas and Dr Eng. Małgorzata Wojtaszek- Kalaitzidi.

📝Call for Papers!

The Call for Papers for the 17th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece is now open!

Dear colleagues
We warmly invite scholars from across Greece, Europe and beyond to submit their paper to one of the available sessions and participate to the 17th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece. The congress will take place from 28 to 31 May at the University of the Aegean in Mytilene, Lesvos island, Greece 2025, for the first time in one of the Aegean islands.

The primary goal of the Congress is the presentation of the most recent advances in Geological - and Environmental Sciences, mainly in the Aegean Region and its surroundings, aiming at highlighting their impacts on natural resources, natural hazards, and environmental problems.
A major aim of the Congress is also to emphasize data acquisition, multi-disciplinary interpretation and modelling, theoretical developments, and applications to the Earth’s systems at various spatial scales employing new open-access data.

The 17th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece provides a unique platform for discussing the latest developments in Earth Sciences, enhancing your knowledge, and fostering valuable networking opportunities. The Congress seeks to facilitate interactions with leading researchers and influential figures in the fields of Earth Sciences.

All colleagues are encouraged to circulate the Call for Papers within their networks to ensure broad participation and diverse contributions.
How to Submit Your Paper:
1. Visit the conference website (https://ege2025lesvos.gr/paper-submission/) and make registration to the Submission Platform (Easy Chair)
2. Explore the list of Sessions and Workshops. Choose the Session / Workshop that best matches your research and download the Abstract Template.
3. Prepare your abstract following the instructions.
4. Submit your abstract in the selected session. The submission portal will be open until 31 December 2024. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.
Authors will receive feedback and decisions by mid-February 2025.

Στο πλαίσιο του θεσμού των "Γεωσυναντήσεων"
το Εργαστήριο Έρευνας Ορυκτών και Πετρωμάτων του Τμήματος Γεωλογίας οργανώνει Workshop με θέμα:
«MAGEmin: ένα καινοτόμο εργαλείο διαχείρισης θερμοδυναμικών υπολογισμών και διαγραμμάτων φάσεων»

To workshop θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τετάρτη 15 Ιανουαρίου 2025, και ώρα 11:00-13:00, στο Υπολογιστικό Κέντρο του Τμήματος Γεωλογίας (1ος όροφος).
· Απευθύνεται κυρίως σε υποψ. Διδάκτορες, μεταπτυχιακούς και προπτυχιακούς φοιτητές.
· Είναι επιθυμητή η χρήση του προσωπικού laptop των συμμετεχόντων καθώς απαιτείται η εγκατάσταση λογισμικού.

Το Τμήμα Γεωλογίας Συντονιστής σε Νέο Ευρωπαϊκό Ερευνητικό Πρόγραμμα

Το Τμήμα Γεωλογίας συνεχίζει τη σταθερά ανοδική πορεία των τελευταίων ετών σε ότι αφορά την επιτυχημένη διεκδίκηση χρηματοδοτήσεων για έρευνα μέσω ανταγωνιστικών προγραμμάτων. Στα νέα προγράμματα Horizon προς χρηματοδότηση από ευρωπαϊκούς πόρους συγκαταλέγεται το "TRANSFORM" (TowaRds AdvaNced multidiSciplinary Fault ObseRvatory systeMs), με συνολικό προϋπολογισμό 4 εκ. ευρώ. Το ερευνητικό έργο "TRANSFORM" θα είναι μια συνέργεια έξι ευρωπαϊκών δικτύων παρακολούθησης σεισμικών ρηγμάτων και πολλών Πανεπιστημίων, Ινστιτούτων και φορέων, μεταξύ των οποίων το Institut De Physique Du Globe De Paris και το Ελβετικό ETHZ. Το Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών, μέσω του Τμήματος Γεωλογίας, θα έχει τον ρόλο του συντονιστή στην έρευνα που θα διεξαχθεί. Συγχαρητήρια στον Καθηγητή του Τμήματος Ευθύμιο Σώκο και στο νεοεκλεγέν μέλος ΔΕΠ του Τμήματος Παναγιώτη Ηλία για την επιτυχία αυτή, που επιβεβαιώνει για μια ακόμα φορά την εξωστρέφεια του Τμήματος και την ερευνητική του δυναμική σε διεθνές επίπεδο.
