Today, we are pleased to share a new chapter in the geological story of the Gulf of Patras. A new article presenting in detail the remarkable fault network of this region has just been published.

This achievement is the result of a highly fruitful collaboration of Oceanus-Lab with the outstanding Research Unit SPHERES (director Prof. Aurélia Hubert-Ferrari), Department of Geography, University of Liège, together with our invaluable colleague Professor S. Kokkalas from the Laboratory of Structural Geology of our Department.
The study builds upon the pioneering work of Ferentinos, Brooks & Doutsos (1985), https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0191814185901464 who presented the first tectonic map of the Gulf of Patras, four decades ago.
Combining and interpreting new data, modern techniques (high-resolution sparker systems), and collaborative expertise, this work offers a significantly improved view of the active structures that shape the region today. The study provides an important foundation for future research on the geodynamics and seismicity of southern mainland Greece and the northern Peloponnese.
