Taggling game at MMCA, Thessaloniki. November 14
Following the special session on Mobile Learning in Cultural Institutions and Open Spaces, that was organized in the frame of IMCL 2014, an event was hosted by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA) on November 14th associated to the special session.
It was the official openning of the new game that was developed by the HCI Group for the Museum: Taggling. Taggling is a mobile location based game that is designed by Vicky Manoli (funded by Practiki Askisi) and Christos Fidas, Nikoleta Yiannoutsou of the HCI Group.
The players have to shift tags around the exhibits and if they attach the correct tag to an exhibit they gain points. Special thanks are due to the museum curators Stella Anastasaki and Christina Mavini who enthousiastically embrassed the new game, actively participated in its design and introduced the visitors to the event.

With the emergence of mobile technologies, as well as the pervasiveness of the Internet, cities are transformed into technological playgrounds, in which ludic behaviour occurs in combination of the physical and the digital. Mobile technologies function as interfaces that structures the ludic behaviour through rules and informational networks dictating what can and cannot be done during gameplay.

External evaluation of the ECE Dept: Visit of the evaluators at the HCI Group

In the frame of the external evaluation of the Department of the Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, that took place this week, the Evaluators' Committee visited the HCI Group on October the 30th, 2013. A brief presentation of the education and research activities of the Group was given by the Group's head Prof N.
Avouris.
The members of the group demonstrated results, like the touch table that was built in the frame of a diploma dissertation project and showed the reviewers the lab infrastructure: the eye tracker workstation and the usability testing room.
The Reviewers' Report comments on the high level of research and educational activities of the Department, especially in current times of scarce resources.

Εξωτερική Αξιολόγηση του τμήματος Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Τεχνολογίας Υπολογιστών του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών: Επίσκεψη αξιολογητών στην ομάδα Αλληλεπίδρασης Ανθρώπου-Υπολογιστή (HCI Group)

Στα πλαίσια της εξωτερικής αξιολόγησης του τμήματος που έγινε την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα, η επιτροπή αξιολόγησης επισκέφθηκε την ομάδα Αλληλεπίδρασης Ανθρώπου-Υπολογιστή την Τετάρτη, 30 Οκτώβρη 2013. Ο καθηγητής κ. Ν.Αβούρης έκανε μία σύντομη παρουσίαση των εκπαιδευτικών και ερευνητικών δραστηριοτήτων της ομάδας ενώ έγινε επίδειξη του εξοπλισμού αλλά και των εφαρμογών/αποτελεσμάτων διάφορων εργασιών όπως το διαδραστικό τραπέζι που κατασκευάστηκε στα πλαίσια διπλωματικής εργασίας, την συσκευή eye-tracking και το εργαστήριο πειραμάτων ευχρηστίας.

Η αναφορά των αξιολογητών σχολιάζει το υψηλό επίπεδο έρευνας και εκπαίδευσης του τμήματος, ειδικά σε τέτοιους χαλεπούς καιρούς και με περιορισμένους πόρους.

The MasIE workshop, that took place in Athens, on July 17th during the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Environments - IE'13, acted as a forum for reflection on the cultural experience supported by intelligent technologies and for exploration of new ideas and we would like to thank all the speakers and participants for making this workshop a great event.
