Today we hold heavy hearts as we remember Max Hale — a beloved son, brother, teammate, leader, and forever member of the El Segundo Water Polo family.
Max was the kind of person who left a mark that cannot be measured by records alone. He had a way of making people laugh when they needed it most, bringing teammates together without even trying, and leading with a spirit that was impossible not to admire. To share a pool deck, a locker room, a van ride, a tournament, or even just a conversation with Max was to know someone truly unforgettable.
At El Segundo, Max built a legacy that will live on forever. He was a 4-year varsity letterman, team captain, multiple Team MVP, All-League MVP/MOP, All-CIF honoree, and captain of the 2023 undefeated CIF Championship team. He holds school records for career goals, single-game goals, career hat tricks, single-season assists, and career offensive points.
After graduating from ESHS in 2024, Max continued his journey at El Camino College, where he made an immediate and unforgettable impact in just one season. He helped lead ECC to its most wins ever in a season with 23 victories and a spot in the SoCal Regional Tournament. Max led the team in scoring with 110 goals, becoming the second-highest goal scorer in ECC program history, and also ranked 5th all-time in ECC history for assists. He was selected 1st Team All-SCC and 2nd Team All-SoCal, closing out a remarkable season as one of the program’s most impactful athletes.
From El Segundo to El Camino College, and then into service with the United States Army as a PFC in C Co, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Max carried the same courage, discipline, humor, and competitive fire everywhere he went.
But beyond every award, record, and achievement, Max’s greatest legacy will always be the love he gave, the friendships he built, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind. His humor, heart, authenticity, leadership, and fearless spirit will live on in everyone who knew him.
