Cob - Building with Earth

Στο Cob ασχολούμαστε με τη δόμηση με φυσικά υλικά, προσπαθώντας να φτιάξουμε πιο "φυσικές" κατοικίες για πιο "φυσικούς" ανθρώπους.

Η φυσική δόμηση και η βιοκλιματική αρχιτεκτονική είναι δύο πρακτικές που έχουν σαν αποτέλεσμα την εξοικονόμηση πόρων και ενέργειας, η πρώτη στην φάση της κατασκευής μιας κατοικίας ενώ η δεύτερη στην διατήρηση σταθερών συνθηκών διαβίωσης σε αυτήν. Και οι δύο καταλήγουν σε τεράστιο περιβαλλοντολογικό αλλά και οικονομικό όφελος.

Η φυσική δόμηση είναι ένας αρκετά νέος όρος που χρησιμοποιείται για να περιγράψει μια δομική προσέγγιση προσανατολισμένη στη χρήση τοπικών, προσεκτικά επιλεγμένων ή και ανακυκλωμένων υλικών, απλών εργαλείων και τεχνικών.

Σε όλους σχεδόν τους τόπους η φύση μας εξασφαλίζει τα δομικά υλικά που χρειαζόμαστε. Επειδή τα υλικά αυτά χρειάζονται ελάχιστη επεξεργασία ή μεταφορά, τα οικονομικά και περιβαλλοντολογικά κόστη είναι χαμηλά. Μερικά από αυτά τα υλικά είναι ανανεώσιμα (όπως τα δένδρα και το άχυρο) και κάποια άλλα (όπως οι πέτρα και το χώμα) υπάρχουν σε τέτοια αφθονία που είναι πρακτικά ανεξάντλητα. Ένα ακόμα από τα πλεονεκτήματα του να κτίζει κάποιος με τοπικά υλικά είναι ότι το κτίριο βρίσκεται σε πλήρη οπτική αρμονία με το περιβάλλον.

Αντίθετα από τα οικολογικά δομικά υλικά, τα φυσικά εμπεριέχουν καθόλου ή ελάχιστη επεξεργασία. Η χρήση τους δεν συνεισφέρει στην καταστροφή των δασών, την κατασπατάληση των ορυκτών πόρων, την μόλυνση και ούτε εξαρτάται από βιομηχανικά υλικά και βαριά μηχανήματα. Η γη είναι μη τοξική και τελείως ανακυκλώσιμη. Σ’ αυτή την εποχή της περιβαλλοντολογικής υποβάθμισης και της έλλειψης φυσικών πόρων με τις χιλιάδες κρυμμένες τοξίνες στα σπίτια μας δεν είναι λογικό να επιστρέψουμε σε πιο αθώα φθηνά και υγιεινά οικοδομικά υλικά;

Re:Habit - Bringing rural places back to life

Nobody has lived in this house since 1948.

This November, 15 young people are coming to Nessonas to start bringing it back to life.

The long-term vision? To turn this abandoned house into a community guesthouse: a place that can welcome future volunteers, learners, travellers and people with fewer opportunities.

🌱 1o Εργαστήριο Εισαγωγής στη Βιοεντατική Εμπορική Λαχανοκηπευτική (Market Gardening)

Ένα εργαστήριο που σχεδιαζόταν εδώ και καιρό! Ως αφετηρία μιας ευρύτερης και ποικίλης σειράς εργαστηρίων, διοργανώνουμε το πρώτο μας εργαστήριο με θέμα τη «βιο-εντατική καλλιέργεια λαχανικών» στο αγρόκτημά μας.

Θα μιλήσουμε για τις βασικές αρχές της βιοεντατικής καλλιέργειας, τον σχεδιασμό και την οργάνωση της παραγωγής, το έδαφος, τα εργαλεία και τις υποδομές, αλλά κυρίως για το πώς μπορεί ένα μικρό κτήμα να γίνει ένας βιώσιμος και ζωντανός τόπος παραγωγής και ζωής.
Και αυτή είναι μόνο η αρχή...

🫒 ΕΡΓΑΣΤΗΡΙ ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΑΥΤΑΡΚΕΙΑ

Προσπαθώντας να σκιαγραφήσουμε ένα διαφορετικό μοντέλο ζωής με γνώμονα την αειφορία, την αυτάρκεια, το χαμηλό αποτύπωμα, την χαρά και την ποιότητα ζωής, διοργανώνουμε στις αρχές του Οκτώβρη στο αγρόκτημά μας στο Νέσσωνα ένα εργαστήριο με την παρακάτω θεματολογία:

🔥Συσκευές μαγειρέματος χαμηλού αποτυπώματος (ηλιακοί φούρνοι, ξυλόφουρνοι, dutch ovens, rocket stoves, πυρομάχια).
🍊Κατασκευές επεξεργασίας και συντήρησης της τροφής (ηλιακά ξηραντήρια, καπνιστήρια, κελάρια).
🏡 Στέγαση (κατασκευές με φυσικά υλικά).
💦 Διαχείρηση νερού
🌱 Αναγεννητική γεωργία, περμακουλτούρα
⚡️Ενέργεια (παθητικά συστήματα, ανεμογεννήτριες, βιοαέριο, ηλιακοί θερμοσίφωνες, φωτοβολταϊκά, πλυντήρια, ψυγεία).
🍞 Επεξεργασία, συντήρηση και αποθήκευση τροφίμων (αποξήρανση, κονσέρβες, κομπόστες, τουρσιά, παστά, καπνιστά, ψωμιά, τυριά, ζυμαρικά).
🍄‍🟫 Εδώδιμα μανιτάρια (συλλογή, αποθήκευση, αποξήρανση, σάλτσες, τουρσιά).
🪴Βότανα (συλλογή, αποθήκευση, σκευάσματα).
🧼 Είδη υγιεινής και καθαριστικά.

Οι περισσότερες δραστηριότητες θα είναι βιωματικές από τη συλλογή των υλικών, μέχρι και την ολοκλήρωση της κατασκευής.

The importance of roots can’t be understated.

It’s what allows some trees to survive crises with strong winds, earthquakes, floods, all while still communicating with other species in the forest and providing itself with nutrients to keep on growing.

People are now in a time of polycrisis–political, social, ecological, spiritual, mental. With circumstances that make it so easy to feel powerless, now is the time to strengthen our roots so that we can too stay connected to our surroundings, community, and ourselves.

That’s why we’ve created a training next month that uses different tools and methodologies (like group forum, decolonized permaculture, and music) to specifically strengthen our roots to:
• self
• community and relationships
• Earth

You will leave having found the home inside you, our communities and the Earth. Working towards re-indigenizing ourselves, we’ll discover that people always did this, we’ve just forgotten the tools and rituals to find our way back.

🌱 OPEN CALL for RE-ROOTING (a free training with Erasmus+ Youth Exchange)

Reclaiming Belonging & Creating Resilience in Times of Polycrisis

Where do you feel you belong?
To a place? A community? A landscape? A culture?
To the people who came before you?
Or maybe… you’re still figuring that out.

This October, we’re inviting young people from Greece, Italy, Palestine & Portugal to spend 8 days living and learning together at COB, in rural Greece. To explore how we can meet the crisis around us with stronger roots, deeper relationships and more collective power.

We’ll explore: belonging & identity • land & ancestry • relationships & community • displacement & solidarity • purpose & agency • regeneration

We’ll ask: What have we inherited? • What have we lost? • What do we want to reclaim? • And what kind of future do we want to create together?

And we won’t do it sitting in a classroom, but in nature!

Expect music and voice, Community Forum, embodied and sensorial practices, nature connection, storytelling, creative expression, shared meals, work with the land, conversations that matter and the everyday experiment of becoming a temporary community.

Fresh fruit picked right off the tree is better than getting commercial snacks delivered to our door in every way. Sorry Uber Eats and Deliveroo, but we are so grateful we don’t need you

It’s one of those times of year when we’re reminded of the beauty, benefits, and convenience of a diversified food system. In our food forest, you’re seeing how our family (with its members little and big, hair buzzed or long hair) is teaming up to *lovingly* whack trees and make it rain with almonds.

Gathering the nuts on the tarp and then stuffing and stacking the crates, as you can see, is very laborious. This is where the boost of our natural snacks comes into play. Our plums, jujubes, pears, and figs are also ripe right now, so we get to just reach out to a neighboring tree for some good ol’ fruit, and carry on with our almond harvesting 💪

Food forests are always credited with the benefits they bring to soil, produce yield, biodiversity, etc etc, but let’s not overlook how they provide a great way to make sure harvesters, pollinators, and decomposers are always fueled during their work.
