• Distinctive Eyes: This species is recognizable by its blue or greenish-blue eyes set on eyestalks characterized by horizontal red and white (or cream) stripes.

• Body Coloration: It typically features a vibrant scarlet or orange-red body and legs.Habitat: They are marine crustaceans often encountered by scuba divers in rocky or coral-rich ocean habitats.

• Biology and Behavior

• Housing: Like all hermit crabs, Dardanus calidus has a soft abdomen and must scavenge gastropod (snail) shells for protection. As they grow, they periodically seek out and move into larger shells.

• Classification: Despite their name, they are not “true” crabs; they are more closely related to lobsters.Symbiotic Relationships: Some members of the Dardanus genus are known to have symbiotic relationships with sea anemones, which they may attach to their shells for added protection.

•Lionfish•

• Venomous Spines: Lionfish possess 13 long, needle-like dorsal spines, as well as spines on their a**l and pelvic fins, which contain a potent neurotoxin used primarily for self-defense. A sting can cause extreme pain and respiratory distress in humans but is rarely fatal.

• Ambush Predator: They are slow-moving nocturnal hunters that use their large pectoral fins to corner prey before swallowing them whole.

• Invasive Status: Native to the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, they have become a highly destructive invasive species in the Western Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean. Due to a lack of natural predators in these areas and their rapid reproduction rate laying up to 2 million eggs annually they significantly reduce native fish populations.

• Distribution and HabitatLionfish are found in warm marine environments, including coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds, at depths ranging from shallow water to over 1,000 feet. They are popular in the aquarium trade, which is the likely source of their introduction to non-native Atlantic waters.

•Dendrodoris grandiflora•

Body: It has an oval, dorsoventrally flattened body that can reach up to 10 cm in length.

Coloration: The background color is typically a grayish-white, heavily mottled with dark brown or chocolate patches.

Mantle: The mantle is smooth with a wide, wavy edge (skirt).

Sensory Structures: It possesses two “ear-like” tentacles on its head called rhinophores, which are used for sensing.

Gills: A flower-like cluster of gills is located on its back, used for breathing.

Location: This species is commonly found in the Mediterranean Sea, including regions like Greece and Italy.

Environment: They typically inhabit shallow waters, often found under stones or in rocky and sandy coastal environments.

Characteristics: Many sea slugs in this group are cryptic, meaning they are well-camouflaged to blend into their surroundings.

•Tube worm•

• Anatomy: The visible feathery structure is a “crown” of tentacles called radioles used to trap small food particles, bacteria, and plankton from the water.

• Tube Structure: Unlike many other sedentary worms, species in the genus Protula typically live in hard, calcareous tubes and lack an operculum (a “lid”) to close the tube when they retract.

• Visual Features: The “feathers” often form a double spiral and can range in color from white to cherry red. This specific specimen shows the characteristic red spots that give it its common name.

• Habitat: They are sessile creatures, meaning they remain fixed in one place, often attaching their tubes to rocky crevices or coral

• Peltaster placenta (Biscuit sea stars) •

• Appearance: It typically has a pentagonal (five-sided) body shape with a large, flat central disk and very short arms. Its upper surface is usually pale orange or light brownish-orange, while the underside is cream-colored.

• Unique Features: The body is bordered by characteristic double rows of large marginal plates. While most have five sides, genetic variations can occasionally result in rare square-shaped individuals.

• Habitat: This species is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, where it can be found in deep-sea environments from 10 meters to over 1,000 meters deep.Diet: They are known to feed on various corals, including black coral and soft corals, as well as sponges

• Diabolical Blenny•

• Tentacles: It has branched supraorbital tentacles (the “horns” above the eyes). In males, the first filament is significantly longer than the others.

• Body Patterns: Characterized by 7 to 9 dark, transverse bands along its sides that often take on an hourglass shape.

• Facial Markings: Look for a dark oblique stripe on the cheek with a lighter stripe above it, and a large reddish spot bordered in blue or white behind the eyes.

• Habitat: This species is native to the Mediterranean and Black Seas, typically found on shallow rocky bottoms and in the intertidal zone
