Applications are now open for the Center for Hellenic Studies new cycle (July 2027–June 2028) of the Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies in Greece and Cyprus program.

Eligible candidates are postdoctoral researchers based in Greece and Cyprus whose work is broadly related to the ancient Greek world and requires continued access to material on site (e.g., archives, libraries, artifacts, archaeological sites).

Application deadline: Monday, November 2, 2026.

📢 New Call for Proposals: U.S. – Greece Program for Collaborative Research in the Humanities

The Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) invites Proposal submissions for the U.S. – Greece Program for Collaborative Research in the Humanities, implemented within the framework of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

The program aims at developing collaborations in Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences between U.S. and Greek scholars through the implementation of joint research Projects.

Under the 3rd submission cycle (2026), Proposals are required to focus solely on subjects concerning the history and culture of the United States or Western civilization.

The maximum funding available per Project is up to $50,000 from NEH and up to €50,000 from HFRI.

📅 NEH submission deadline: September 16, 2026, at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time)
📅 HFRI submission deadline: September 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM (Greece time)

Το Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Έρευνας & Καινοτομίας - ΕΛΙΔΕΚ προσκαλεί υποβολές Προτάσεων για την Προκήρυξη «Ερευνητικά Προγράμματα Συνεργασίας στις Ανθρωπιστικές Επιστήμες “Ελλάδα – ΗΠΑ”», η οποία υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του Μνημονίου Συνεργασίας με το National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών.

Στόχος της Δράσης είναι η ανάπτυξη συνεργασιών στο πεδίο των Ανθρωπιστικών Επιστημών και των Ανθρωπιστικών Κοινωνικών Επιστημών μεταξύ Αμερικανών/ίδων και Ελλήνων/ίδων ερευνητών/ερευνητριών μέσω της υλοποίησης συνεργατικών ερευνητικών Έργων.

Στο πλαίσιο του γ’ κύκλου υποβολών (2026), οι Προτάσεις θα πρέπει να εστιάζουν αποκλειστικά σε θέματα που αφορούν την ιστορία και τον πολιτισμό των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών ή τον δυτικό πολιτισμό.

As summer 2026 draws to a close, we look back on another rewarding chapter of the Harvard Summer School Program in Greece. For the twenty-third year running, the program brought a group of students to Thessaloniki and Nafplio, with a short stay in Athens along the way. Through seminars, excursions, and site visits, students explored themes related to the Eastern Mediterranean while engaging directly with Greece's history, culture, and landscapes, sharing new perspectives, unforgettable moments, and lasting friendships.

As every journey reaches its conclusion, this summer's program comes to a close, leaving behind lasting memories, new perspectives, and a community united by a shared passion for learning. ✨

The program concluded with a final week dedicated to the preparation of students’ final projects, providing an opportunity to reflect on and synthesize the knowledge and experiences gained throughout the summer. 📚

As Harvard Summer School in Greece comes to an end, so too do this summer’s educational programs at CHS. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this remarkable journey and proud to have shared another summer filled with learning and meaningful connections. 🙏🏻

While this chapter closes, the friendships, ideas, and memories created along the way will continue to inspire long after the summer has ended. 🫶🏻

The first EVOKE season at Vythoulas wraps up 🧭🏺
From June 22 to July 11, 2026, CHS Greece supported the EVOKE Project (𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘝𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘴 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘒𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘴), the first project and case study within DIORAMAS, during its inaugural excavation season at Vythoulas in northeast side of the island of Kythera in Greece. 🇬🇷

Led by Prof. Tamar Hodos (University of Sydney & Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens), EVOKE investigates a significant archaeological landscape on Kythera, exploring how communities lived, worked, farmed, moved through, and understood this landscape across more than 5,000 years.

Conducted under permit from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and Islands, this year’s fieldwork combined two strands:

Archaeological excavation:
Three trenches were opened at Vythoulas, where teams investigated archaeological stratigraphy and recovered evidence from different phases of the site’s history.

Landscape and environmental research:
Alongside excavation, researchers explored the relationships between water management, agriculture, movement, and memory in the Kytherian landscape.

The season brought together 25 students and researchers from Australia, Greece, the United States, Brazil, and beyond. Participants received training in excavation, archaeological recording, finds processing, and landscape interpretation. The team also included three Harvard undergraduate students, participating through a collaboration between University of Sydney and Harvard's CHS, supervised by Prof. Tamar Hodos (University of Sydney) and Dr. Daphne Martin (Harvard University).

The team now looks forward to analysing the season’s results and continuing research at Vythoulas as part of DIORAMAS’ mission to explore relationships between people, place, environment, and memory.
