d, more specifically, on those islands that constitute main gates of entry to European Union territory for migrants and refugees, such as the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Leros. The Observatory aspires to document in a systematic and comprehensive way the multiple aspects of the refugee and migration crisis, both on an everyday level and from a wider historical perspective. Second, the project aims to reliably inform Greek and international publics on the refugee and migration issue in the Aegean. Third, the project supports relevant academic research.
Το Παρατηρητήριο της Προσφυγικής και Μεταναστευτικής Κρίσης στο Αιγαίο παρακολουθεί την εξέλιξη του προσφυγικού και μεταναστευτικού φαινομένου στα νησιά του Αιγαίου και, ειδικότερα, στις περιοχές που αποτελούν κύριες πύλες εισόδου των προσφύγων και μεταναστών στον Ευρωπαϊκό χώρο, όπως είναι η Λέσβος, η Χίος, η Σάμος, η Κως και η Λέρος. Βασικοί του σκοποί είναι πρώτον, η έγκυρη, συστηματική και σφαιρική καταγραφή των πολλαπλών –δημογραφικών, κοινωνικών, οικονομικών, θεσμικών, πολιτικών, θρησκευτικών και πολιτισμικών- διαστάσεων της προσφυγικής και μεταναστευτικής κρίσης τόσο σε καθημερινή βάση όσο και ιστορικά, δεύτερον, η έγκαιρη ενημέρωση της ελληνικής και διεθνούς κοινής γνώμης για το προσφυγικό και μεταναστευτικό ζήτημα στο Αιγαίο και, τρίτον, η υποστήριξη της σχετικής επιστημονικής έρευνας.
